wow, this game is annoying. Started up an Arsenal game and brought in a couple of re-enforcements to an already strong side. Won my first few games in charge and then get Chelsea away in the League cup. As I'm not playing seriously, I save my game and see what happens, they score in the first couple of minutes and go on to win 2-0. Bugger methinks, I'm not having that so restart the saved game (yes I know!). Same result, same kinda times as in score within first 5 mins. Reload again, change tactics about a bit, same result. Different teamtalks, same result. Different line-up, similar results, always losing 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0. Now all my players are fit, they're all well motivated and I have reloaded the saved game 20 odd times and not once have I got a result. Now I know this is cheating and against the idea etc but each to their own right?

I'd have thought that a match between similar teams would by the rule of chance bring up results either way with a slight bias to the home side admittedly? I have tried all manner of lineups and tactics but can't even manage a draw. It's as though something's pre-determined.

I have had a similar situation in another game where my Chesterfield team refused point blank to beat Bradford at home despite again having a good strong team.

Anyone playing with random player names? And does anyone always insist on playing with fake players for every new game? I just started a side game with no real player names to see what it would be like, and it really isn't nearly as much fun at all, and takes longer to play, meh, back to the regular one I think! Although just got thrashed 4-0 in the FA cup final by Man U.

Also, not exactly an unheard of talent, but Luka Modric isn't expensive and he's uber consistent. The fans love him! For those of you looking for a temporary backup striker, I've played 2 games now and Samaras from Man City has been available for loan both times, I loaned him in one game and he was very handy indeed! Didn't even pay his wages :p

Check how ** losing... action zones etc. Are they running riot in midfield? are you closing down too much allowing their fast strikers to run / pass through the gaps created by closing down.

Is it long balls, direct passing, through balls, set pieces or crossing that results in them scoring? After 20 games you should notice a pattern :P
Maybe try men behind the ball and counter attacking, i think the gunners have a pacey team something like:

ST
ML MC MC MR
WBL DMC WBR
DC DC

I've read that closing down on opposition defenders good at pressuring them into mistakes and often nick a goal or throw ins/corners.

Some of my players are starting to become tired, and I've just hit a stop gap around November as there's some Internationals going on... anyone know if it's possible to just rest all the players from training for 1 week / few days, or do I have to do it individually?

Well since only in charge of Liverpool for 14 games, won 9, drawn 2, lost 3 Ive yet again resigned from a top 4 premiership club, Man Utd being the first one if you hav'nt read my previous posts.

Anyway, being in the premiership Im finding it boring, being a top team anyway. You get too much money and spend it on over priced players :p

With me only choosing the premiership as my only league to speed up the game, will I only have choice of taking over premiership clubs.

On the managers screen of availible jobs, it only seems to be premiership clubs.

Im after a new challenge, either in a european club, international or a championship side to see how thier respective leagues / competition fair...

Will it be Vista Business x64?

I run FM08 (unpatched) on vista x64 home premium edition - No crashes or problems at all. I play in window mode so i can alt tab and do work.

Although on a quadcore machine with 4gb ram, theres only 5-10 seconds of result generation time where i can work :D /Mr Burns grin and hand rubbing EXCELLENT! l GO ON THE ROYALS!!!!

/edit Bennah try Reading.. Decent players with only 8mill to spend. Also not much for wages i think 60-70k. On top of this if you do well (im doing good joint 5th and Liverpool are 9th, Benitez sacked ^_^) Every premiership club wants your players and they are all "Uuh" Kitson, Doyle, Lita, Shorey, Fae, Hunt, Harper are all wanted by bigger Prem clubs (and a lot of them want to leave :()... oh and Juventus want Sonko!!! With Lippi lavishing praise on him all the time. On top of this i have a small squad and the crap players that think they should be first team regulars and are not ruling out using the bosman rule to leave the club at the end of the season :P Also if you like to out hustle teams like i do you collect yellow cards like pokemon which means suspensions hehe :D It is VERY challenging (for me at least first FM game for me in a few years)

Yeah I know it'll work on Vista Noto. ;) I just want to make sure that Andybtsn is going to be running Vista x64 otherwise his PC won't be able to use all the 4Gb RAM he's just bought. :)

I've just decided that I don't like you for some reason.

Don't know why! :p

Yeah, the loading definetly goes quicker, not having to wait as long when it's processing the other results for instance.

Bah, with me only selecting the Premiership at the start of the game, I can only be them clubs or International clubs.

I guess I will have to see when a decent International team arrives on the scene looking for a new manager.

Started a game up with Northwich Vics in the Blue Square Premier. Not doing too bad, they predicted that I would be fighting for Mid-Table, 30 odd games into the season I am in the final Play-Off place (5th). Just need an out and out scorer, have lots of shots per game but cant seem the finish them off. If anyone has a recommended players for a BSP side then let me know.

No the saved game you have only has your results, players, teams etc in. The game uses the FM.exe and other files for the match engines etc. So any patches to keeper/striker issues should show up in the new game as the saved game uses FM.exe which would be patched up. :)
Thats good to hear then, that the striker fix in the 8.0.2 patch will apply to my existing save game. :D.

How bigs your Db though?

I have quad and 4Gb too, and i dont see times like that.
Most loads are a few seconds, but the big ones still take a bit.

I'd personally say that for FM the best upgrade is the dual/quad route.
Its not particularly memory intensive considering what it has to do (never seen it go above 500Mb, at worst).
Considering 08 is threaded, i'd say that as long as you have 1Gb with XP or 2Gb with Vista, you'll be fine.

Perhaps Vista has better memory management than XP?
Perhaps!? lol. :p.
Vista memory management is stunning compared to XPs. :p.
