Good links. Thanks. :).

Im finding that that Wolfsong teamtalk guide is a revelation.
The changes to how my team plays isnt just a minor one, its a major one.
Im finding that my team performs far better!

yes me too, ive not even cheated as reading and I am joint top of the premiership... although ive only played Man U as a good team who trashed me 4-0. But ive won 5 drawn 2 in the last 7 and my players no longer listen in half time or full time team talks so im gonna have to issue the dont get complacent one i think now. (think ive only played 9 games into season or so..)

also using the media when they speculate how u will perform against a certain team i usually pick one that bigs up reading but doesnt say too much about opposition. usually i get 1-3 players that are fired up for the match from the PR. Occasionaly one will think " we shouldnt be talking about other teams" and some will feel that "diverting attention from Us is good"..

Over all this mental side of it really turns the tables

Think I will wait until the 8.0.2 patch to start a new game and try the team talk guide. :)

do the saved games not cross between patches? :(

I recently did a team talk in a carling cup 4th round, told them we needed one more goal and 2 disapointed for the 2 players iwth 6 rating (the rest were 7) 6 looked delighted, 2 disapointed ppl were fired up - one of which scored the winner. reading 2-1 Spurs

A bit of a dirty tactic i use but i tackle players hard when i think they are the key man, often u can injure them or provoke them to get sent off. phil nev was red carded against me as he pushed one of my players who kept tripping and kicking him lol. Usually i target play makers in midfield, as i dont want to conceed a penalty. Although both my MC are now 1 yellow away from a ban and its only November 9th lol

They can yes. You just carry on. You'd get the game patch, if there is one but you wouldn't benefit from the transfer update. But then SI do normally recommend starting a new game when you install the patch. Hence why some people just play FM out of the box and only get the transfer patch.

Will be another month for the patch, they are waiting until Jan is over last I heard so they can update the database with the January transfer signings.

They always wait until early Feb to release the next patch. There is never a cast iron guarantee that SI will release any patches to fix the BUGS. However they almost always release a data/transfer patch in early Feb. Obviously they have to wait until the end of January for the transfer window to open.

So we're pretty much guaranteed an 8.0.2 data patch but sometimes SI slip in a bug fix patch as well.

As long as they fix one-on-ones with the striker/keeper as the keeper wins 99% of the time, and also long shots as they always seems to just go over the bar and never actually score.

Yeah that is really quite annoying. There's always this rumour about superkeepers in the game that SI repeatedly deny. Pretty much the rumour is that a really rubbish keeper can keep out the best strikers in the world. Makes some people very angry that a) it happens (they think) and b) SI deny it.

And long shots is also frustrating. Man Utd have a few players who can score from long shots and I buy in new players who are also good at this so its pretty annoying when they never score from a long shot.

Rooney scored 2/3 from outside the box against me in the 1st half... 4th was a header. (im reading)

Yeah. :D I found FM05/06 quite funny when you get a scout report on a very promising youth player. The game then compares them to your best player and says he's rubbish. Er yes but my player is established and at the top of his game. This youth player is young and not even 20 yet. So although he's brilliant and the game finds one little fault, I can't help but think that the game should recognise the comparative ages of the players and say that the youth player isn't anywhere near the older player NOW but in the future.....

Surely that does work correctly in FM2008? In my game, my scouts look at the current rating compared to your best player but also the potential rating. If you have good scouts, found this to be quite accurate - comparing to actual potential ratings using FMScout. Also youngsters get 'silver' stars which indicates potential as opposed to gold ones. I find the additional scouting to be extremely valuable as they suggest whether a player is likely to sign for you or not, what wages they are likely to want and whether that player would the the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th choice player in a particular position if they joined.

Are you possibly implying my tactics are rubbish? :(:pReading what? :p

na i think someone mentioned earlier in this thread that sometimes a person when controlled by AI is amazing but in the same position controlled by player he's not as good.

What do people find the best tactics? My tactic is to pack out the midfield, once i controll it, i can usually control the game.

ST
AML AMR
MC MC
WBL WBR
DC DC DC (or one less DC and extra ST) Attacking style with Man2Man marking and closing down.

I have 2 amazing jumping heading DC, Sonko and bike. and nicky shorey when at WBL seems to have gogo gadget rocket skates on as he intercepts everything and no one gets past.

Hmm yes that works. But when a player is 16 and I get told not to sign them because of their stamina being 7 or something.

Yeah I hate it when that happens. I have players who are crap. I sell them off. They then play against me later on and are so much better its a joke.

On the SI Forums' Good Players Guide Man Utd thread the classic 4-4-2 is good for the original squad but after a while the 4-2-3-1 seems to be popular. 4 defenders. A DMC, an MC, 3 AMs (AML, AMC, AMR) and an FC/ST. I presume with Utd the AMC could be Rooney and the FC/ST Tevez and they just swap around.

Promotion to League 1 with Cambridge! I want to upgrade my facilities but my board won't allow it, roughtly how much do I need in the bank?

Went up via the play-offs, in the other game the 2nd leg was 8-2, an nice 13-something on agg!! I beat them in the play-off finals after losing just a few weeks before 6-2!

I'm using the 4-2-3-1 home & away tactics by Croat mentioned earlier in the thread to great effect.

I don't think there is a magic number really. You need to have enough in the bank to finance an improvement in facilities. Say the stadium needed upgrading, then the bigger the proposed/required upgrade, the more money the club would need to have.

Do you mean your training facilities then? I was going to say for a stadium upgrade you need to be regularly filling your stadium as full as possible and have an average attendance as close to the maximum capacity as possible. At Old Trafford I'm still on 76k and I probably average 70k. I've asked for a stadium upgrade as I can normally get 85k or something after one or two seasons.

If you do mean training facilities then the board might wait until they are quite old before upgrading them.

Anyone recommend a decent DC to pair with Kompany?

Ive just taken over as Liverpool in the 2010 / 2011 season after resigning from Man Utd. They already signed Kompany. Ive also got a DC that Ive started to play called Jack Hobbs, hes not bad but I need a better DC.

You dont hang around do you Marc :p

I shall check what hes like, see where hes at and how much hes going for.

The board have just gave me £46m to spend in the January transfer window. Im 3 days into it. Want to bring in a few of my own players by the end of it.

Currently 3rd chasing down Man Utd and Chelsea. My goal is to reach the Champions League (top 3) then hopefully the title next season. Another job should arise by then so I can move from the premiership.
