It can depend. Some clubs have minimum release fees of £100m+ and won't accept anything less than the minimum release fee. Others have minimum release fees but as you say the board or chairman will overrule the manager and accept the bid.

Meh, speaking of overruling, I've just lost Clichy for £17m as the offer was 'too good to turn down' :(

well guys quick update on my atletico madrid game, bot its hard and infuriating but im loving it.

the board are still annoyed at me for finishing 2nd when i should have finished in the top 10 last season (I know go Figure !)

anyway witht he squad listed way further back im in first position in la liga after 12 games and almost through to the first round knockout of the CL.

Quite Simply Aguero is a machine 16 goals and 4 assists so far this season in 11 games.

His record last season was an incredible 31 goals, 12 assists and 10 MOM in 27 games absoloutely stuning.

However i am still really struggling making money, I'm basically getting £300k per home league game in gate receipts however close to £2mill in a CL game. My attendance is around 50k per game though so I think the problem lies in the amount of Season Tickets sold at the beginning of the year as i think it was close to 43k.

But as a consequence i just am not making much money, the knock on effect being i cant seem to ge the funds together to sign anyone :(

MY team consists of Four Loan players and i am picking up whoever i can on a free to strengthen whenever i can.

Anyway onwards and upwards, just hoping i dont get sacked by the end of the season due to not moving towards the boards long term goals of being a title challenger within 2 years. I FINISHED 2ND last year FFS :p

i signed a few people for about £4m because of their release clause...asking price was much higher.

also at such clubs as the brazilian ones i got many people for cheaper because they will want allot more money, whereas ill offer a certain amount and it will be automatically accepted.

Are you using the 8.0.1 patch? There was a bug in the original retail version of the game whereby if you achieved the long term goal too quickly, the board would be disappointed. It was seemingly fixed in the 8.0.1 patch.

All this talk of transfers, you guys have no idea :p

I just had to lose a right winger for £100k because the offer was too good to turn down. I'm not even in debt or anything. I'm Hyde United and in the Championship now. Finished 16th first season but showed a lot of promise!

Had to spend my first ever transfer fee on the game too in the year 2015. £190k for a centre mid. Heavy!

So another club made a bid for Clichy and the board accepted it over your head?

Yup. So now I just have Traoré at left back, and some kid I signed from PSV but I don't think he's ready for the first team yet.

Not quite as annoying as one game in FM07; pre-season one of the board expectations was to make a 'high profile signing' or some words to that effect. The biggest name I bought was Podolski, and the fans were 'delighted' etc, but the board still apparently wanted a bigger name :/ and so deadline day came, I didn't have anyone else lined up and thought meh, what's the worst that can happen?

Well, the board decided to but a £20m bid in for Paul Robinson, and I just sat and watched in horror as it was accepted...agreed terms... signed. What the hell!!!!

I think the stupidly high values come from the manager of the team, whereas the board are likely to accept a lot lower for a player. I bet if you offered £40 million instead of £129 million for Torres the board would auto-accept it and the manager and his crazy £129 million asking price would have no say.

I always start at the players asking price (plus a bit if they are really good) but it always gets rejected, without negotiation. The £129m was their best offer. I dare say this is because the players I chase are generally the best in the game, and I am Barca so they might see me as a cash cow.

I am liverpool, have a fairly good transfer budget, but i cant seem to get players as they have 'no intention to join my club'... missed out on bojan on a free to AC simply because he didnt want to join. I won the premiership 2 times in a row, and FA two times, league cup etc. Just not the champions league? is there any way to get my rep up so i can attract bigger players?

I'm doing something wrong, I can't get a job?

I create a manager, start a season and the two posts that come up at the start both turn me down?

Can't even play the game, lol!

If you start the game unemployed then you have to wait until a team want you I believe. I've never tried that though. If you want to take over a specific club then just select the club in the add manager screen.

It'll largely also depend on what you set yourself as, such as "International Footballer" will get you better jobs and much quicker than "Automatic".

Oh I missed that, will take a look.

I'd rather make it more realistic and not just make myself Manager of Arsenal from the off.

Hi all,

Just trying the editor as we have got a competition going at work with using financial edits for a league 1 team, and to be champions league winners in 5 seasons... !

I've volunteered to agree what we should set things to... however, im having some trouble with wage budgets

It seems to be that regardless what I set them to in the editor (been using remaining budget ticked, and 250,000) that Im limited to 55k total.

Ive tried increasing the reputation of the club, but it doesnt work....

any ideas?

It could be related to how much cash the club has as a whole. If you are giving a club with £5m in cash £250k a week wages, the board might not allow this and give you £55k a week which is within their £5m cash reserves.
