Poll: The official Football Manager 2008 thread

Would you buy FM09?

  • Yes definitely

    Votes: 145 40.3%
  • Perhaps, depends on the reviews/bugs

    Votes: 102 28.3%
  • Definitely not

    Votes: 113 31.4%

  • Total voters

So far the poll has 70 votes, 33 yes (47.14%), 17 perhaps (26.15%) and 20 no (28.57).

Can I ask any of the No voters why they won't buy FM09? Are they fed up with the FM series and the direction it is taking or are they people who buy one FM in every two releases to guarantee seeing changes?

I've gone and voted yes purely because I buy all the new releases as it irons out all the bugs, updates all the squads, kits, league changes and they always manage to implement some new exciting features.

However, that said, if they finally get around to releasing FM Live I might lose all my FM playing time to that and not need to purchase FM09.

*Also bumped this thread back to Page 1 where it belongs :D

Same here, when the new version comes out I buy it definatly. Probably preorder it anyway :p

I like to have a new fresh game, slightly different layout and a updated database. If you, like me, purchased pervious versions of FM then getting the new one is a no brainer.

Yuppity yup yup. I always pre-order it. Not normally when any online sites have it for pre-order but when SI announce the new FM and give us a hint as to the release date, then I order it. :)

I suppose, before SEGA bought SI out, that I felt I was helping a small company out. They have to produce a new game every year to balance the books so I could see that by buying the game every year I was helping to keep SI going. Don't know how much SEGA support SI in financial terms.

FM is the only game that I know of, for the PC, that has a new version every year and I have FM05, FM06, FM07 and FM08. :p

I've never pre-ordered it. I normally just order it a couple of weeks after release. This year was the first year I've got in in a store since my first CM game, CM 93/94 :)

I normally pre-order as it pretty much guarantees I can a) get the game on the day and b) get it for £8-10 cheaper than I would instore, if not a lot more.

I've bought every game since the early 90's in the Amiga days; I've never been disappointed or not had more than my money's worth. It is the most solid performing game I have ever played in all my [17] years of gaming and I can't see me ever stopping buying it. Ever.

:(.
Was doing so well since this 8.0.2 patch.
Winning most games quite convincingly.
Then i suffered my biggest loss as manager, a 4-1 defeat by Inter. :(. In the cup mind you, im still 7 clear in the league, but the board expected that i win the cup.:(.
Shocking. Considering my previous 3 results were 1-1, 3-0 & 13-1.

Loads of players up for frees on my game.
Got Breno on a free. Gonna loan him out though till i need him.
Riberys available too, but i dont really need him.

BoomAM :( Are you AC Milan? Do you know why you lost? Some first team players injured and so youth/reserve players in their place?

Breno is good. :) How old is he? When I get potential world class prospects I can never properly debate the pro's and con's of loaning a player out for first team experience and perhaps some income/wage paid by loaning team to keeping them at the club in the reserves so I can train them on my schedules and then give them the odd fixture in the first team. :)

Tbh I've never managed to offer a player out for a loan and get a loan fee paid for him.:( And some FM-ers do that as a matter of course and earn several £ million a year doing that!

I used to be able to get a good 15-20 million a year from loaning out players, Vanden Borre in particular used to get me a good 5 million a year. That was in FM 07 though, never managed to get more than a million in FM 08.

Porto and Ajax always seemed to like paying for players on loan, yes it was a season long loan. Freddy Adu used to get a lot for a season long as well. My best ever though? 10 million for a player called Tales to AC Milan for the season :D

Yeah, Milan.
No injurys, all first team players.
Just a bad day really. I dominated, yet lost.

22.
I dont really need him till Barzagli hits 33. He's 30 now.

Am i paying too much for my deals with overseas clubs? Between a US and Japanese team, im paying alomst £6m a season.

Not much point in keeping him at AC Milan really. :) He's old enough to have benefitted from training and would be a good loanee for another three years. :)

Are you sure £6m and not €6m? That would be abou £4.5m. It is probably worth it for the income it should be generating. If you look at your finances page, particularly the income part, can you see a rise in merchandising since the Chinese link was setup?

Nah, it is £6m.

Average merchandising income is £6.2m a month. Meaning per year thats £74.5m extra a year. Still good business in anyones book.
But i suppose i was just used to 07, where after 3 seasons of having two feeders like that, i was averaging +£200m profit per season. :p.
