No sign of 4.0.2. I wonder if they’re going to go straight to 4.0.3.

4.0.2 appeared on my sim free phone on Friday morning, I was in work at the time so thougt I'd leave it till I got home, when I got home it was not available, got home from the pub Friday night and it was available again... all a bit strange

I don't know if it's becasue the phone is a couple of weeks older now but the battery seems good, I'm getting a couple of days out of it on reasonable useage :)

Rooted Nexus here on the 3 network, running 4.0.1 still.

Am I right in thinking that because mine is rooted I wont get the automatic update? If if I do, will I need to re-root the device?

Btw this is my first Android device, coming from a iPhone 3GS & iPhone 3GS, so any help/ advice regarding rooting etc would be most grateful as I dont wanna brick the thing lol

if you are rooted you can follow these instructions to update manually. some people have said it updates ok with unlocked bootloader and root, others say it doesnt work (it failed to update on mine)

Clicky

basically you copy the update file after it has downloaded from the cache folder onto the sd card partition (or download the update from google). then boot into clockwork mod recovery (without installing it,so stock recover is still intact) and run the update file.

you shouldnt need to re-root.

That's hardly a downside of this phone though. That's how life is with smartphones...

Right now I'm at 9½ hours and still on 68%. That's pretty damn good for a smartphone.

And I'm on 11hrs17min and on 8%, battery definitely doesn't hold out as much as my iPhones used to.

Will rooting and changing to a custom ROM affect battery life positively?

Try turning off your off Touch & Lock sounds, as these seems to preventing some devices going into deep sleep.
