Just shows you need to take these things with a pinch of salt unless they're done scientifically and objectively, I certainly wouldn't base my buying decision on one.

Don't know why it's not an option. Easy to achieve though with Nova Launcher and Tesla Unread Count
I know, I use Nova on my S6, but thought i'll give Google launcher a shot considering this is my first stock phone
Can you recommend an ad blocker that doesn't require root?I was on the verge of cancelling it too.
How do you know if this chap wasn't trying his hardest ?

That's why these videos are so pointless ... you don't know.
Ad blockers don't work that well without root. They require you setting a firewall/proxy to filter the ads. So it slows down that your internet plus its needs to be always running in the background.
Had a look at a dummy phone in CPW today, was pleasantly surprised by the size of it, didn't feel any bigger than my G4. Was a little underwhelmed by the aluminium finish, I'd say graphite or frost are the ones to go for.
