*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

What's the alternative products out there in this spec/size/price range? Anything?

Nothing apart from a refurb iPad 2. Only Amazons ecosystem/Kindle can compete but that hasn't been released in Europe yet (Sorry Amazon, too late for me :( Hope the 10" version is good though)
This is what the Windows RT Surface should've been, a cheap tablet to drive the the MS consumer ecosystem.

Don't forget sales tax, though.

Works out around £138 for the 8gb...not a HUGE difference, but if you're travelling anyway may be worth waiting

True I forgot about the sales tax...still cheaper plus I'm going to be there anyways so definitely worth waiting I guess

Plus if the exchange rate gets that bit better it will bring the cost down a bit also.

Was going to go for a Windows Tablet but this is the best option for the price by far...also it will replace my ageing Hannspad!

My Advent Vega screen cracked last week, so this is excellent timing, Tegra 3 with decent screen for £160/£200.. Not bad!

Was a pain pre-ordering, like others, my card transaction failed and needed unblocking.. Google are obviously on many banks automated fraud checks..

With the likes of flipboard and similar apps on my phone, I am becoming more and more of a media consumer on mobile devices, and if I had the money I would instantly get one of these tablets as this is the price point I think makes sense and with google showing off what the android tablet experience should be like I think that android tablets will finally be able to compete.

Yay payment processed at last!!

Doubting whether I should have gone for the 16gb over the 8gb now

I won't be purchasing films or storing films on the device so I think I made the right choice.

Gonna sell my Tablet S straight away!

Ordered mine just now, like some of yourselves it wasnt processing my mastercard, put it on my visa just fine though.

Opted for 16gb due to no sd slot which is a shame but never needed more an 16gb on my ipad so should be plenty!

As a thought for those who want more storage -

How about a mifi type thing with a SD card attached? Android should allow you to quite happily navigate and read/write it with (damn it can't remember the name - file browser!)
