*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

There's a button combo, one sec...

Once you get to no command, hold power and press volume up and you should get to the next screen.

hmmm that's what I thought and tried and it just goes black, then does nothing for ages and cant power on for a while, bizzare

edit, was being a noob and was holding up aswell instead of just pressing up :)

Never attempted flashing or rooting before, but I thought what the hell.

Unlocked and rooted with the nexus toolkit. Intalled TWRP. Formated to F2FS, then installed a stock kitkat rom with F2FS support. Only scary moment was during the root process, it reported that the superSU zip was corrupt. Will I miss this? What does it do?

I carried on anyway :)
Installed the rom and it booted fine. Rom is a cut down version, with most google apps missing which was fine. Saves uninstalling the chaff.
Tried a couple of apps to check root, and they confirm device is rooted.

Device seems fine. Only long term usage will confirm any improvements. Must admit, the whole process was pretty simple. At least if I need to revert or it all goes belly up, I know I can do it.

I just cracked my nexus 7 32gb gen 1. I want to know what is the best option. I was quite happy with it before i cracked the screen by dropping something on to it.

Options
gen2 16gb new £154
gen2 16gb factory refurb £114
gen1 screen+bezel+digitzer replacement £50
2nd hand gen 1 or gen 2 at varied price 70-120

Don't need 32gb (never put anything on the tablet apart from apps) or 3g as use my phone for tether as its free work sim if i do need it.
Hold out a bit more till prices come down on the nexus 9? i have heard mix reviews of the 2nd gen and i am not sure how much i like that thick bezel.

Can anyone offer any advice? Maybe an alternative android tablet?

After almost 24 hours I think I can safely say that L has transformed my old slow, limp, dust gathering N7 into the device I remember when I first got it. It's so fast now and I can use it the way it's intended to be used!

Great news, I look forward to L being pushed out OTA

I used WUG to try and install the lollipop download but it didn't work. Clearly not very good at flashing.

Do I have to do something else with it. I extracted the .zip from the tgz file and then tried an advanced install using the zip. Luckily I did a Nandroid bacup first.

Am I missing something, anyone got anything step by step using WUG

I just connected the tablet, fired up WUG and accepted all the updates, re-selected the device and software revision (make sure you select Android 5.0), again accept the download (if it wants one).

Make sure (on the tablet) you have Developer Settings turned on, and USB Debugging selected.

Then hit 'Flash Stock + Unroot' (make sure you mark 'Device is On/Normal')... Select 'Download and install' then just let it do it's business...

Mine, on re-boot, was taking ages, so I rebooted it again and it cam up (after 5 minutes) and asked me to set up and log in... Restored the Google Backup from that morning (even Widget positions!!).

Then I Rooted...

It does feel a little faster than on KitKat, but I've now got to set up all my 'other' emails and accounts!! :D
