*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

I connect to my AD2P Sony BT headset to control and listen to the playing of my audio books. It seems to work a treat and saves my headphone socket.
I am thinking of getting a BT keyboard but I'm not sure of which to buy.

To do what? Tethering?

It lets you send texts through your tablet and also allows you to make phone calls using it if you've got a headset I think although I've never used that function.

It's just a bit easier to send messages using the bigger keyboard especially if you're using the tablet anyway as a little quick reply box pops up.

Actually, I've just connected it to my phone using the BT hotspot for tethering, and it worked really well. So I've just worked out a good reason to use it that way now! :D

Sorry to butt in. The one thing I'd really like to be able to do is send txt messages from my Nexus. I have a little HTC Desire that the Nexus, will happily detect via bluetooth. (but thats all)

So this is the first time I've heard about "tethering" so how do I go about it; I assume tethering my phone to the Nexus?

Is it techy? or as simple as finding the right app for the job?

Cheers

Download something like Tablet talk or mighty text to both your tablet and phone and follow the instructions it's as simple as that :)

For tethering, just turn on the tethering ability on your phone - choose bluetooth. Connect your nexus to the phone via bluetooth, and you have instant internet access on your tablet via your mobile phone. :)

Or root it, and get a PPP dialer for a usb dongle - but that's a bit trickier to get working :p

Cheers. I don't need the Internet access, I do that via WiFi, anyway. It's just being able to txt directly from the Nexus would be useful, rather flipping between Phone and Nexus, which is what I end up doing.

Have just bought a Rovero Rockdale BT headset. Going to be living out of hotels a lot in my new job and want something where I can shut out the world a bit. Going to look into Tablet Talk though. I take it this is for using with Nexus that aren't 3G ones?

I don't usually tether per se as I tend to turn on the wireless hotspot on my Evo 3D which I understand is slightly different. So do I need to install Tablet Talk on both the Nexus and Evo 3D and then join them through the apps or by pairing properly via BT?

The pairing request pops up when you hit connect in the app, it's all very simple once you've got it installed on both :)

Thanks for that. Got it set up over wifi to get the main sync done as BT seemed to lose connection transferring so many messages. Might switch back to BT for general use though.

Nice app! :)

Eugh, dammit. After having my Nexus back and checking it properly I now have backlight issues... Looks like fixing the screen lift has caused epic light bleed at the top of the screen.

Time for repair round 2 -_-

What do you guys use bluetooth for with your Nexus 7?

Tablet Talk. Connects my tablet to my phone meaning I can text message from it, and also get notifications of phone calls on the Nexus 7. It means my phone barely leaves my bedside table when I'm at home.

Edit: Beaten, about 4 times! :D

I also use BT for tethering for internet as I can enable it all from the tablet (no need to find the phone/get it out of pockets or bags and turn it on), and I think the BT uses less battery than WiFi Hot Spot.
