**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Anybody considering changing their pixel 2xl for the s9+ ?

I was considering changing my Pixel XL for S9+ but after holding one and getting a play around I honestly couldn't justify it. If anything, I would go for the S8+ as it's pretty much the same phone.

Mobiles have hit a ceiling by the looks of it, there's just no reason to upgrade right now.

Have to agree video poor in this thing, 30 FPS is better than 60fps for sharpness?

I've stuck to 30 FPS 4K as it gives the the sharpest video. In good light it's fine but during poor light it's not great nor is the sound. Very annoying but learnt to live with it and snap more than video. Hoping this year's resolves those issues. It's a shame really.

Tried clearing in calendar app

I don't use the calendar for reminders. In the end, I've just manually deleted all the reminders one by one in the Google App, then cleared data and cache. Hopefully problem solved for a while.

On another note, a very minor complaint, but midly irritating: When on the lock screen, pulling the notification shade down quite often it just bounces back up no matter how carefully you do it. Eventually it will stay down, but its quite irritating when I just want to say turn on the torch or something equally trivial. Does this happen for anyone else?

I've not experience that.

Squeeze phone and say "turn the torch on" ;)

I decided that the camera on this phone is so good that i would try investing in a case with lenses that you can attach for an upcoming holiday. so i have some coming from the states from moment. will let you know what they are like when they get here!

Is there a way for the camera to start up in Portrait mode only? I usually take snaps of the family and prefer the portrait mode for this unless a group shot. Looked in settings and saw nothing unless being silly.

I never swipe down from the top of the screen anyway, fingerprint sensor is more handy for that

Not IMO its not. I cant get used to that. Besides, if you do that it just unlocks the phone.

Anyway, another problem. My dongle seems to be basically knackered now. It was cutting out all the way home. Pathetic, so I’ve now either got to buy wireless headphones, or another dongle that will inevitably fail.

SMH.

Not yet but I read an article a few days ago saying the camera app is going to be updated and it'll have an option to create a shortcut on your homescreen directly to the portrait mode.

Hmm, having played around I’m not convinced the dongle is at fault, it seems to be losing connection. It isn’t a solid connection like you would get on a proper headphone jack, it moves around a bit in the port. So I don’t think a new dongle will solve my problem.

So I either have to get the phone replaced, which I am not convinced will fix it permanently because this very much seems like a wear and tear issue, or buy wireless headphones. Or screw it and sell the thing and buy something that has a headphone jack, and I’m tempted in all honesty, I’ve had too many niggles for my liking with this phone now.

I honestly think if your using a phone with no 3.5mm jack you have to commit to BT headphones, and I say that as someone that loves wired cans, using a USB dongle is never going to be a good solution in my opinion, I have my GF's USB-C phone sitting here beside me and I honestly don't find the fitting as snug as the USB mini on my old Z3.

If your really into your audio and you don't want to go the BT route I'd recommend the LG V30.

Which case is everyone using these days? I'm looking for a super thin case and it doesn't look like Peel and MNML are available in the UK so wondering if anyone has recommendations?

I bought a spigen rugged armour. I put mine in it the moment I got it because putting a phone in a case is depressing and the sooner I get used to it the better :p

Seems to be well made, but perhaps not as skinny as you're looking for.

Well, today I bit the bullet and ordered some Anker Surge headphones that a friend recommended. I feel fairly happy that it will be a decent choice as I've recommended him some Soundmagics in the past which he was happy with but says these are about as good if not a little better, and they were only £18.

I am a bit of an audiophile, but honestly, for out and about, I can't see the point in anything expensive, more especially when I only use them occasionally - they wouldn't even get a look in, in the house.

And I suppose a small part of me is a bit sick of the tangled cables and whatnot that come with normal wired headphones (again, fine in the house when you're tethered to a PC).
