**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

'All' of the feedback? I've only seen Android Central sayings its bad, the others I'cve watched/read say its great? What Have I not seen then?

Nilay on the Verge has been blasting it all afternoon on Twitter. He's still buying one but he hates the screen.

Same as Vlad Savov and Dan Siefert as well as Techradar
To be honest it's the first thing I noticed the minute I saw one. I thought it looked washed out.
By blasting, you mean 'a tweet'? Also The Verge are iPhone fanboys, everyone knows that.

I think its more because they tuned it to sRGB, which if its not set to, that is the first thing I change on any phone I have. My S7E is set to basic which is sRGB.

Anyway, I'll see what it looks like when I get it in about a month....

Vlad is a major Pixel fanboy... and watch the Techradar vid I linked above theres a 15 minute section, 10 of which are about the screen...

I'm going to check out a Pixel 2 in person and wait for Mr. Mobile and MKBHD... but at £800 the screen is non-negotiable - it has to be good.

Google has clearly given a lot of thought to the quality of its screen as this article from 9 to 5 today describes when it comes to fight OLED burn in its always on display:

I agree, I'm going to go and find one this weekend and see for myself, and like I said, if its not perfect I'll be returning it and looking elsewhere. :)

Bad things can always be found if you look for them.

That’s the problem I had - I was so obsessed with numbers that my expectations were too high.

I’m not bothering with reviews because I don’t care. Premium phone these days has a bad screen, just may not be as good as others.

But seriously guys, you’re worrying about detail being lost in shadows, on a phone? People worry about that stuff on 2K OLED TVs

And this is an £800 phone... so I think its a fair expectation.

The thing about Samsung's display modes is that they are calibrated for 0 lux - no ambient light. During the day basic mode isn't really that accurate if you want sRGB in fact you'll probably find photo or even cinema is closer to sRGB in moderate light.

Everybody running around using basic mode because it's 'more accurate'...most of the time it isn't,

Agreed I doubt the screen is a horror show, if that is the most important thing for you then buy a samsung

I used to have the same approach, but I ended being disappointed with everything I bought. At the end of the day, nothing is perfect, but LG know what they’re doing when it comes to displays, so even if it’s not as good as Samsung’s AMOLED, the display in the pixel is still going to give inky blacks, accurate colours and great pixel density.

It’s important to remember Samsung have the more saturated approach as default, so the pixel may appear to be washed out in comparison.

I bet the pixel 2 xl’s display is better than the one on the iPhone 7, and the iPhone has a great display

I have a P-OLED screen in my LG Watch Sport and there's uneven colour representation and banding all over it.

I can't see why the Pixel 2 XL would be using a different revision of P-OLED vs the V30. The screen technology just isn't up to scratch versus what Samsung are putting out and it's visible. This may have been excusable when Google's handsets were priced below other flagships but that's clearly the days of old since the Pixel.

Shame - I really want to move back to pure Android, but if I'm paying similar prices to other flagships then I don't want to compromise at all. A Samsung built Pixel would be incredible, but I could never see that happening as it just wouldn't be of any benefit to Samsung to do so.

Damn, why does the Pixel have to look like it was from 2015!!! If it had less bezel then it'd be an instant purchase from me (even though I think it's a little expensive, the pure Android experience is worth it imo) :(
