**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

I was committed to keeping my Sony Xperia X for another year since there's essentially nothing wrong with it apart from the stupid bug in Nougat where the 'Phone Idle' process eats the battery, but the Pixel 2 is so. damn. fast. Must resist.

EDIT: Android Central really don't like the 2 XL's screen

Must admit its the only phone that really interests me at the moment.

I'm pretty sure it'll leave my S7 Edge in its dust in terms of speed, and although initially I was dubious about its lack of dual lens cameras, it doesn't appear to cause it any problems.

Just a shame there's such a long wait for it!

You seem surprised? I was interested in hearing what the reviewers really thought about the poled. Whilst watching phones through a youtube is pretty pointless in comparing screens, you could quite easily tell there was a big difference between that and the s8. What that difference was in real life was the big question. Very interesting indeed.

Like I keep saying time and time again. This isn't an £800 phone.

I think the camera > lack of 3.5mm for me.

I could go LG V30 but the screen talk and camera, combined with the bloat, update speed etc probably won't do it for me. :/

Agree. This is really a great addition to the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL and clearly will aid Google in intensive AI/machine learning and probably AR based apps they plan to introduce. This may well set the Pixel 2s apart from the original Pixels and depending on how Google uses this SOC may alone justify the new purchase for many.

One of the new features on Pixel 2s that I am looking forward to is a Now Playing function that can display on the lock screen the name and artist of the song that's playing around you, without having to ask.

I do not think that AndyCR15 tested that feature when he recorded his video yesterday? Perhaps it was not available on the pre-release phone? Perhaps it might have told him about any ambient music at the store.

Turn on the feature and Google downloads in the background (over WiFi) a database that allows it to identify tens of thousands of songs. Currently it is favouring the most popular music today.

I am often in a situation where I find this feature useful.......spin class with music blasting for example.

I honestly didn't notice it. I was really impressed by the screen, but then as they showed how it took a cold tint when looking at an angle, I have to say I kinda though 'is that the issue? Erm... okay'. It's not something that would/will bother me personally, but I can understand why it will bother some, perhaps more as you say 'if I've paid this much, it shouldn't do that'.

The extra SOC is interesting, but they're currently saying it's to help HDR, which is already top notch and fast enough to be used automatically on multiple shots a second. How will it actually get any better? I guess Google know what they're doing though, so we'll have to wait and see.

Extremely disappointing especially the screen on the xl 2, shadow detail lost when brightness is lowered, looks washed out, viewing angles suffering from tinting and some reports of blotch gradients as well as uniformity issues (or are those last 2 things just a LG V30 thing? Although given that it uses the same screen as the pixel xl 2, it is also likely to suffer the same)...... Between that and the very dated pixel 2 looks (bezel galore) combined with high price tags, this year has been a big flop for google/pixel and that is coming from someone who has vowed by google devices even when the hardware hasn't been quite as good.

So decision is still the GS 8 or do I just make do with last years pixel 1 if I can find one for £300...... Hopefully we'll see a galaxy s8 for £450 or a bit less on black friday, don't really want to be paying £550+ for it

All of the feedback on the screen being poor has basically made my decision for me. Keeping my S8+. Such a shame, I loved the first pixel aside from the design... literally could have kept it the same and gone bezel less....

'All' of the feedback? I've only seen Android Central sayings its bad, the others I'cve watched/read say its great? What Have I not seen then?
