**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

I'm really hoping for Google's sake the hardware specs that have leaked over the last few days aren't accurate because the XL is getting hammered on a lot of tech sites now. Even without the hideous notch, the specs sesevans posted look massively underpowered for the size of the device and the price tag it will no doubt command.

The specs feel antiquated in a lot of areas. Sure it has a typical Qualcomm SoC as per usual but everything else is lackluster vs a Note or even a OnePlus, if you wish to compare RAM specs. Given that this thing comes with Android P (bloomin hope it does), I'd prefer 6GB looking ahead to the next few Android OS's. At this rate if I was to upgrade from my S8+ I'd look at a Note 9 or OnePlus 6x. Camera improvements aren't enough to sway me no matter how good they are.

Stock android doesn't mean a thing to me anymore as it equals 'beta android lolz'. As an owner of a 6P, and Pixel C I've pretty much had enough of borked new releases and being a test dummy.

Maybe they're going to return to Nexus style pricing if the leaked specs are correct.
If they're going to keep the ultra high end pricing then it looks pretty much DoA to me.

Google definitely wont be going back to Nexus style pricing.

I mean there was a device rumoured for early next year, they may have Nexus style pricing but as far as these models nah.

Surely the Nexus ultra is not gonna happen ? We would have had a leek of some sort by now
Here's a few leeks :D

Tech sites reporting that the 3XL has a smaller battery than not only last years, but smaller than the original XL. They are seriously worried now about the 3XL. The notch, the lack of ram, now the battery. Nothing can be forgiven now google are competiting aganist the true flagships. They made the decision to price high, not us.

I am confused with the leaked specs but I'm still going to try one out before I decide.

I'm indifferent to the Pixel 3 at this stage, the leaks do indeed seem lackluster. If I had to change my phone (2XL) in the morning I would likely go for the Note 9 (assuming it was out) and I swore I'd never go back to Samsung when I bought my original Pixel XL.
However what I would say is how many of the Pixel 3 naysayers out there said they wouldn't buy the Pixel 2 and then eventually did..? I was one of them :p

I've lost most of my interest in the Pixel 3XL, I think I'll wait for them to release and have a look at one in the flesh. Hopefully those leaked specs and videos showing the phone are fakes by Google but at this point, I'm not holding out much home lol

I'm not buying the panic. For the battery we're talking 30 or 50 mAh. They say it's got to power a bigger screen and all that, but I'm still not worried. There's some pretty big screens with only a 3,000mAh battery. Stock Android with Pie on it will be fine.

Then there's the RAM. True most flagships have 6GB, but I'm still not convinced 4 isn't enough. I presonally think Google must think 4 is enough if that's what they put in the Pixel.

All this said, I really am leaning towards the Note9 at the moment. I think it was only because the Note 7 started bursting into flames that I even came over to the Pixel. I even had a CPW order for the Note 7 which annoyingly I cancelled too soon to benefit from the £50 they were giving out to current orders when they stopped sales. I have to decide if I can do without stock Android and the amazing camera though.

I'm still rocking a Nexus 5.

I want a phone that get it's updated in a timely fashion. Which usually means direct from Google.

That's what I did when the original Pixel launched. I waited for it. And then when the cost was ridiculous bought a Nexus 5 before they sold out.
The Nexus 5 got its last firmware update (Marshmallow) in November 2015. The Pixel wasn't announced until October 2016, so I'm not quite sure how your timely update logic worked in that case. By your timeline, you've never had an update at all?

^^^ eeewwww ...

There are plenty of side by side tests out there that show 6gb does has an advantage over 4gb when it comes to (imo extreme) multitasking. But in real life I don't think it makes such a difference right now - it's more of a nice to have.

I'd say 4gb is enough, 6gb is perfect and 8gb is overkill. For now, anyway.

MKBHD released a video about his daily driver and he's moved over to the OnePlus 6, from the Pixel 2, because he found the Pixel 2 quite laggy in comparison. That's got to be RAM related tbh.

Orrrrrrrrr the continuous poorly optimised software updates?

I am using a Samsung S8 which has 4gb of RAM. And it's plenty snappy.
