**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

Plus TV's do have cameras & sensors but they don't chop off the screen to put them in.
TVs are slightly bigger than phones where every mm of screen real estate is absolutely vital. TVs can afford to add another inch on the top of they want a stupid front-camera. Phones can't.

I don't understand the hatred for notches. I never let my notifications sit there forever (my OCD kicks in if there's more than 3 for example) and as long as there's room for that and a clock, what the heck else do you need your status bar for? As said above, the front-cameras aren't going away so you may as well get the extra screen real estate. And if you don't like it, you can turn it off in the software like the OP6.

EDIT: Where's the non-XL pics?

Phones can be taller, But the mighty tech youtubers will cry about it, Just like they cried about bezels. I can hide the notch but guess what it makes the bezels even bigger than phones of past defeating the object of getting rid of bezels.

I just put a 18:9 video on YouTube on my Pixel 2 XL, It filled the screen perfectly. I then simulated the notch within developer options, Oh look its cut off the video.

Try simulating the notch on a pixel & look what it does!

We will never agree anyway, I believe screens should be uniform as it always has been with no cut outs.

I don't think phones can be taller. Most new high end phones are 6" or whatever which is big enough to stick out of my jeans pocket. Any bigger would be silly...

Overpriced with Ugly Notch, just the that other phone, I'll be sticking with my OnePlus 5T for along while I think,

If nothing has tempted be by August I usually hold out until the following year anyway, Note and Pixel phones are released at the wrong time.

I don't mind notches if done well. I'd rather not have it. But the fact is, it's NOT well done here. It's seriously ugly and spoils the phone along with its Jimmy Hill chin.

Those defending it, whatever we are allowed to have an opinion on a phone likely to cost a grand.

The iPhone X looks WAY WAY better than this abomination. In fact so does the Pixel 2XL for that matter.

I accept that there is a lot of controversy and unhappiness about both the notch and chin on the Pixel 3 XL, per the leaked video. I am certainly not defending the design and how it detracts from the aesthetics.

But did I miss any discussion on what advantages it might bring, if any?

A better way to get two good speakers than in the past?

Or, for example, could it be a better way to provide really accurate Face ID?

Leaving aside all the negativity on the design, any advantages?

I am I the only one who is not bothered by the notch or chin ?

It's the specs / performance / features I care about. If they can somehow beat the XL2 camera then I am signed up. Because even now 10 months on it's still a country mile better than any other phone!

I do wish the whole notch thing would just go away. I'll wait and see what happens with the 3. Having just got a replaced 2XL from Google I'm not in a huge rush to upgrade. Yet.

I wouldn't say it bothers me, but I would have preferred it smaller. (The notch that is. The chin definitely doesn't bother me) It certainly isn't enough to stop me from buying it.

For me with young kids the camera just makes up for any faults the XL2 has and if they top that on he pixel3 then I will have to take the notch on (and) the chin :)
