**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

If you're still seeing stuttering in samsung apps maybe it's something else?

I prefer a lot of Google's apps anyway though hence why I use them instead. But dark mode would have to be system wide for me since that's what I'm used to now with the S8+ and my eyes won't burn when using the phone at night.

+1 to everything mrk said.

Can't say I've had any issues with stutter/speed, I've set my animations to 0.5x in the developer options though. Has it not been noted that the pixel 2xl is awful for stutter now though? MKBHD did a video purely about this and quite a few others have experienced slow down over time supposedly.

Have to say though, I find google's apps pretty crap compared to Samsung's especially the calendar. Also, some of samsung's additions are extremely useful/handy i.e. the shortcut to edge and its features, great for opening multi-tasking pair of apps etc. Also, things like swift theme i.e. dark theme for all of samsung's apps and 3rd party apps (such as whatsapp) as shown in mrk's gifs above really transforms the experience.

No doubt, the biggest disadvantage is the updates though but then again, a lot of the features of new updates can be ported over or are already included in the OEM skins.

Also, samsung pay > google pay

EDIT:

Samsung's version of pie looks pretty neat too, especially their implementation of the gestures/nav bar.

Curved screens on Samsung's mean I no longer have a reason to shortlist their phone's. It's just not an option.

I could probably live with the TW software though.

What's the issue with the curved edge screen? The S7 edge had bad touch detection on the edge but the S8 (and S9) sorted all that.

I don't like Samsung Pay any more. My Amex card keeps on saying it needs to be online in Samsung Pay, even though it is. I remove and add the card back and it works again, but then weeks/months later it breaks again. Always works in Google Pay though, so use that instead now for everything.

Rather have flat face too, I like how the rounded sides feels but don't like the looks plus the way it has a weird warp effect with the reflections in certain lighting but not a deal breaker for me.

Can't say I've had any issues with my bank (danske) and loyalty cards, time to dump amex maybe? :p

There is simply no benefit to having it and only negatives - annoying reflections being the most obvious.

At first a curved screen is nice. But I've grown to dislike it as well. Makes the edges too easy to catch input on. They're a weak point for the glass so are more prone to breaking. Never again.

Curved screens are the work of the devil. I had a S6 Edge+ and briefly tried a S7 Edge but that did it for me. Unintentional touches, blue vignetting on bright backgrounds and as it generally leads to a lack of side bezel nowhere to hold the darned thing.
Went Pixel XL and very happy with the flat screen. Now on 2XL and while it has a slight taper at the sides the screen itself isn't included so that's pretty much the best of both worlds.

Pretty much agree on this. Going from a 6P to my S8+ felt just right at the start but some 6 months on and I really dislike it. I am a tempered glass person as I like to have my screens well protected - Whitestone domes are expensive and the only decent protector there is.

Having said that, I'll still likely stick with Samsung as I don't trust Google (Pixel C and former 6P owner) and I want a good display and a headphone jack.

damn guys, I knew my s8 was bad within the first two hours of using it......sent it straight back

agree with everyone here. The curved screen is annoying when typing on the keyboard, bloat....bloat.....bloat..... I knew something wasn't quite right when it took me about five taps, and two updates to change the wallpaper lol

Not had any issues with stutter up until Android Pie - some of the animations drop frames occasionally, but I've always felt this was normal for the x.0 version

The only thing I took away from the new LG V40 launch is that the screen is good. Bright and no notes of visible colour shifting or blue tint.

That should be the same screen that will be used in the new 3XL. Yay.

After a brief flirtation with the idea of an iPhone XS and remembering why I love my pixel 2 I now cant wait to get a pixel 3 next week. Thanks to the leaks I know that the standard 3 should meet my needs perfectly as my 2 xl is too big.

Got my renewal in November, currently have a Pixel, not sure whether I should go for the Pixel 3 or change to sim only - as the Pixel is still perfectly fine for my needs (though battery seems to be poop these days).
