**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

So that Jon Presser guy was actually right about Google requesting videos of tech reviewers slating the design, never thought any of his videos contained much, if any, factual information.

The funny thing is Google didn't bother using any of his videos in their tweet... Almost feel sorry for him. Almost.

Those YouTubers who have gained all the subs and views from this whole thing are the ones who have benefited regardless.

If there is a third device. They respond with a follow on video saying that they had another "source" and couldn't say anything for definite before.

If there isn't, well their videos saying their "source" was correct stay true.

Either way, they have both gained immensely from this.

i have no issue with a 1080p screen. I have my Note 9 pretty much permanently set to 1080p. Watching Netflix side by side, 1080p to 540p, you can't really see much difference. I've said for a while we get far too carried away with pixels per inch. I remember when Apple brought out the retina display, some Doctor said the human eye can't really see the difference above 300ppi anyway...

The notch is not great and was a big factor in me buying a Note 9. I think I can live with it though and I do miss stock Android, so I will definitely be giving the 3 XL a go. The rest of the design looks beautiful.

Very interesting tweets by MadeByGoogle. I can't imagine it's a massive troll. I think what we know about the 3 and 3 XL will be true, but I think they might have a third phone. They also made some odd tweets about what size phone would be best a week or so back. Maybe a 'mini' Pixel even?

I'm actually really looking forward to the announcement this evening.

But doesn't the resolution also effect the size of the UI in apps? It's not just a question of ppi..it's the amount of info you can get on the screen at the same time.
Eg SWGoH (a game) displays 8 rows of characters on my 1440p phone but only 6 rows on my 1080p tablet.

Yep, I'm hyped. The only issue with a third phone, is that if it's not being released as soon as the others we'll have an even longer wait. Thing is, if there is indeed a third phone, why no leaks? I mean actual proper leaks from the factory. Unless it's still in the design stage?

I also prefer 1080p. My 5T has a great display, and it uses less battery and gpu grunt. Win from me on that front.

Can't wait to see them in the flesh.

I don't know how it affects games, but you can change the size of things in settings already, so 1080p can fit plenty on. I generally go for fitting more on, but then sliding up text size slightly.

+1. You can scale UI elements in Android similar to Windows/OSX etc. It works very well too, certainly on the Pixel devices anyway. I did find it a tad clunky on the Note 9 in certain apps. So no, you wouldn't lose any screen real estate going from 1440 to 1080.
