**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

A lot of regular users wouldn't know the difference between stock Android and whatever they have on their device. I was helping someone at work the other day, they had a Pixel device, but it was from Vodafone with the most ugly launcher you've seen... I casually mentioned he should put the Pixel Launcher on it, I don't think he really knew what I was talking about...

Thanks, I was going to ask someone for the link :)

I'm really struggling to get my head around this pricing with the specs...

At this point I think I might be better off SIM only and purchasing a second hand P2XL (which seem a bargain price now)

Sadly, it comes with Samsung's version of Android though - and that always kills their phones off for me. Not sure what the S9 range is like, but the S7 and S8 are seriously crippled by Samsung's touchwiz (or whatever it's branded as now) - that's one thing the over priced Google phones have over them. Obviously this is a personal preference, I'm sure that many users of Samsung phones don't mind or notice its (imo) failings - but when I used my Wife's S7 Edge, I couldn't help notice how unresponsive it was.

As discussed not long ago, can't say most of us S8 owners have experienced any slow downs, certainly not as bad as what people make out anyway imo.

Yup it is all down to personal preference. I got to say though, after having a few nexus devices, stock android was lovely but I actually quite like Samsung's version, I find their apps to be better overall in terms of design + features/tweaks.

Theme wise, stock samsung is certainly ugly (although so is google's android theme now [getting better now that they are introducing dark mode]) but stick nova on, install a theme and you wouldn't realise it is a Samsung phone.

If you were referring to say MIUI then I could understand. But Samsung Experience may as well be whatever you want to make it.

You can change the skin very easily and have it exactly how you want really to the point where you would never guess it was a Samsung phone. This is the whole point of Android, to make it "yours", unlike iPhones where you are stuck with what Apple think you should have.

Going to be interesting seeing google's announcement, certainly can't see them saying it was all a troll if retailers are already putting the units up for sale...... At best, a device which hasn't been revealed at all but then given the price of the current 2 we know of, I dread to imagine what price it will be :/

Everyone wants to price like Apple. The trouble is, most Android manufacturers are just throwing in the same 845 snapdragon, which makes it hard to justify £800, when you can pick up a Pocophone for £300

Is there anything more than the 4gb of RAM that is a concern? On the Pixel 2 XL I never felt the 4gb of RAM was an issue. I think the iPhone 8 has 3gb of RAM... (Yes, I know different more efficient OS etc, just saying, if you're streamlined enough...)

I think he means pricing, not quality of hardware or software

Hows googles messaging app doing? You know, hangouts....no sorry allo....nope, sorry my bad...messages

Yup I mean pricing for the hardware you get i.e. lesser specs for the same price as phones that have bleeding edge hardware.

I couldn't care less about the 1080P screen, it's plenty for a screen of that size but for the price, you would be expecting a lot more.

Chances are the only thing these pixel devices will excel at over other phones is the camera again (and that is more down to the software/image processing.....)

That and the extra chip they have to specifically help with it all?

**EDIT** Oh, and excel at being slick and smooth with faster updates?

Is the extra chip not more for their google lens thing etc. iirc?

Nexus/pixel devices secret to great photos has always been google's HDR+ processing, I use it on my S8 a lot of the time and it really transforms photos.

My understanding it was to process HDR+.

The eight-core chip is meant to speed up the grunt work involved with the software side of photography, such as fantastic HDR+ processing on the Pixel 2, as well as other AI-powered tasks.

I've had 99% of the Samsung flagships for the last 8/9 years and TW has come a long way, it's at a point now where from the S8 I never experienced any slowdowns or lag. Now on the Note 9 and it's been flawless so far.
