**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

I have to say it because it really annoys me, You cannot hide hardware with software, It is still there & it will still have a cutout when apps/games/movies utilise the whole screen.

Camera looks amazing like usual but not enough for me to dump the 2XL. If I was in the market I'd probably get the regular pixel.

great news. keep us updated

i know the notch seems pointless, but compare the xl3 to the standard 3. i can't see how resell value would be better for the standard 3 then the xl3, as, after all, looking at the latest picture above it uses the space wisely and fits in perfectly. i can't see the notch going away next year, but perhaps shrinking to a much more friendly size.

Imo the standard 3 will sell a lot better next year. No hideous notch, and the main fact being a lot of people are starting to want and take to slightly smaller phones being easier for day to day use. The pixel 3 size is perfect for most users hands and it's a Complete package in regards to performance, screen, camera and hopefully battery life.

You're dream has come true...:p:p:p:p:p

As It has got a bottom notch which you enable in the settings

OMG, I was joking about that.....jeez

after watching MKBHDs latest video and GMac11s comments about potential huge depreciation of the XL next year when the 4 comes out, I'm really pleased I went with the smaller one.

Listen to this guy!

What I do care about is who does it best. Apple didn't do the notch just for faceid. The notch came about because they wanted an all screen display but obviously the cameras have to go somewhere. What I'm saying is the size of the notch is because of the technology for faceid. Hence I have no issues with apples notch because I understand what they are trying to achieve, and the lenghts they have gone to get there. All screen display.

And yet the iPhone X ended up with a lower screen to body ratio than some android phones without a notch :p

doesn't matter if it still looks like ass. It's all in the design.
So it's now subjectively based on the overall asthetics of the phone.

ok, subjectively, i dont think the s8, s9, note 8 and note 9 ranges look like ass. Boring maybe, function ect, but they are far from ugly. They pack the same amount of tech on the front panel as the iPx (camera, ir camera, ir emitters, light sensors, speaker etc), have no notch yet all have a higher SBR than the iPX. So in Apple's quest for an all screen display, they ended up with a lower SBR and a notch. I don't see that as a significant win and I'm struggling to see why anybody would

I've no real problem with notches, but the 3xl notch is taking the micky somewhat. Look how much google had to increase the height of the nav bar by just to get it to line up with the notch, it looks really awkward in some photos.

jeez that notch is bad.. ! I like what unbox therapy guy suggested, think that's the cleanest way to utilise that space! surprised google didn't think of it.

Of course, what else would it be. The s8 is one of the best looking phones out there, one of the reasons I love the small pixel 3 so much as it reminds me of it.
The only phone with a notch which looks ok....is the X, or any phone which blacks it out to match the chin.

Just watched unbox therapy and mkbhd latest video. Mkbhd being the biggest pixel fan boy I've ever witnessed didn't actually say anything positive about the XL and it literally all stems from the notch.

I think he's changed his tune this past year. Did you watch his oneplus video. He basically said it was his favourite and daily driver. He had major lag issues with his 2XL.

If oneplus sorted out its launcher and camera they'd be off and running. They should be concentrating on that and maybe a watch rather than a damn TV

You could be right. I've sometimes thought a smaller phone would be better but then I watch YouTube videos on my 2XL and dismiss that notion.
Let's not forget, the Pixel 3 has the same size screen as the original XL - albeit a slightly different aspect ratio. The XL was £729 on release although you did get the free Daydream VR. But with inflation and the improved internals the price actually starts to look not too bad. Also remember all that bezel on the og Pixel.

Pixel 3XL has an 18.5:9 screen vs 18:9 for 3 and 2XL. So even when the notch is hidden it's still almost exactly the same size as the old 2XL.

Not noticeably smaller in any way. The centre video thing need to be fixed though, I mean Wtf.

Ive loved this 5T I'll actually miss it. Hope the ram doesn't cause problems on the 3. The only reason I'm upgrading is simply because of the camera. If the 6T has a camera that gives the P20 Pro or pixel a run for its money it'll hands down be the phone of the year.

I do, the 5T has been a great phone but my niggles with it (first world problems, not really major issues)

1. Camera
2. I hate the stock launcher and can't be doing with Nova.....I want the pixel launcher (and not from some lad sat in his bedroom posting on xda)
3. Love all googles apps, not the ones oneplus take and modify
4. There are some minor bugs I've noticed
5. I like super fast day1 updates. No android 9 for example

If that's how it ends up looking then happy days but that's nothing like the current solution that actually exists.

No it's not, and it's unlikely Google will change it. There may be 3rd party solutions for the modders though. Currently if you use dev settings to hide the notch it blacks out the bar either side but those sides become empty space. It's the same way a lot of apps deal with it too. By adding Black space at the top to create a Black Bar. Again, wasted space. Better to have a Hide option that moves icons into that space.
