**** The Official Google Pixel 4 Thread ****

It's probably inevitable but I'll find it very hard to move away from a pop up camera, having a full screen uninterrupted screen is a wonderful experience.

I had a play with one today in store - Just went on youtube and played a playlist; I used the motion gestures to change songs back and forth, worked 9/10 for me. Would be great if they added a gesture to skip ten seconds like you can by double tapping on the video.

The forehead didn't bother me at all, but I would have preferred a notch, just to get the time and notifications out of the way.

Completely forgot the 90hz screen so didn't even play around with it that much! :(

What’s the cereal like you tried it yet ?

Not tried it yet. Like Cheerios with Marhmallow letters :D

Well for some reason my delivery hasn’t come. Has been showing me as next on the dhl site but no sign of the driver in the time slot. Preordered from google themselves.

I've watched a number of reviews and I'm impressed, although not in all areas and I'm still leaning towards skipping this generation of phones and waiting another year.

It's the Verge review that sums up my feelings in that having the kitchen sink in a phone doesn't necessarily make it good. What I'm most impressed with is the little tweaks that make a difference to what I use the phone the most for:

  • Real time management of highlights and shadows
  • The instant and contextual new assistant looks incredible
  • Soli - I like how its use goes beyond hands free control and disables the always on display when it senses you're not near the phone or how it fires up the face unlock hardware as you reach for it
Battery life is my biggest concern as my Pixel 3 isn't exactly doing a great job as it is. Appreciate video is also another weak point but I don't really take video on my phone.

It surprises me just how poor the Note 10 camera wise compared to the Pixel & iPhone 11 Pro in the reviews I've seen.

Absolute disaster of a release, personally for me, ever since the pixel brand came around, the google phones have been poor, that higher price tag for lesser hardware and imo, lesser software in certain areas is just killing googles phones now, sure fast updates are nice but that doesn't have the same appeal as what it did a few years ago, especially when certain software skins already have had said features in previous phones.

That Soli too, lol..... Didn't the GS 4/5 or/and 6 have something similar with the waving your hand over the phone to skip to the next song and so on, yes different method of working but it worked better.....

Also, echo out to the iphone comments, really like my work iphone XR, love how smooth and fancy the animations are and the battery life is insane, still won't be moving from android though!

Disaster is a tad OTT.

The pure Google experience is the only one to have and would be the only OS that would get me back to Android.

Soli is completely different, Google is using it in other ways than just gesture navigation. It's the little things like activating the face unlock hardware as you reach it, or disabling always on display when you're not around the phone.

I really can't understand the lesser software viewpoint, quite literally, Google's software especially when it comes to camera AI & assistant is leaps and bounds ahead of anyone else.

Sure, some manufacturers have made improvements in these areas such as Huawei & Samsung improving night mode on their cameras but they were very much responsive to Google's leadership there.

That's what's great about the Pixel in my opinion, it raises the bar in areas that others have to react to to keep pace which is only good for consumers.

Look at Assistant vs Siri or Bixby - it just can't be touched. Bixby is an absolutely fantastic example of the difference between Google's software engineering vs Samsung's. Perhaps the new Assistant will come to non-Pixel phones, I don't know how much it depends on the new neural core in the Pixel.

My first attempt at astrophotography. It was a 3 minute exposure.

Maybe there's too much smog in the sky to get the stars like they have in the demos.
