ok I might have read it in the wrong context, but point is still same as before...it is wrong to try to estimate the performance of single 5870 by using xfire 5870 results.

Not if he has run the benchmark on a single card and then on CF. The scaling performance would be easy to note in this case.

He doesn't mention that this was done so I am only going by what he could have done. (Its something I used to do when I owned SLI GTX260 to see the scaling performance).

so from what Ive read so far it would seem that the whole noise issue is that under normal operating circumstances the gtx480 is no louder than cards that have gone before it, its only when you really push them does the fan get noticeable.

I still have to do more testing to see what it's like during gameplay, i've only benched so far but its noticibly louder than the gtx280, especially when it goes on emergency mode (core hits 93c, fan goes mad, temp goes down to 90)

Is it better to have the fan on at a constant say 70% rather than leave it on auto? it's just i dont want it loud unless it really needs to be!

Quick question on PhysX. I am buying a Zotac 480 next week and I have a nvidia 240gts 2gb edition could I use it as a PhysX card? Do I have to use the SLI bridge connection or just put it into the second PCI-E x16 slot?

Interesting read, and nice to see some benchmarks.

One thing that springs to mind though with the limited supply of these cards and people buying 2. Greedy bar stewards! :p no wonder the stocks are dissapearing

I don't think they wanted 2, they were just so shocked to see stock :D

I've just upgraded from a bfg 280 oc. Want to buy my old one for sli? :D

I notice the ASUS GTX480 is still showing an ETA: 16/04/10 at Overclockers?
Have they arrived at last???
Cheers
mrix

The cards are expected to arrive today. The GTX 470 seems to have arrived so hopefully the 480 will have arrived as well.

My OC result:

Core: 785
Memory: 2000
Shader: 1550

It seems fine, completed furmark, vantage extreme, 3hrs of BC2.. I'm not going to try any higher as i really don't want to brick the card.
I used that EVGA precision someone posted a link to a couple of pages forward, if that helps others.

Took Vantage Extreme from X93** to X105**
Sorry, im not home i dont have ss/remember the full scores.

Temps? fan speed?

I've enjoyed reading the past few pages of peoples benchmarks with the 470 and 480. Its nice to see that the fan noise isnt "too bad" as well but I have to say the 93C temps worry me abit. I was thinking of selling my 5870 and going to a 480 but I think I'll wait for now and see if theres a refresh after summer!

I'm not sure if I'm taking coincidence a bit too far but the same day Fermi is available to UK users there is a huge plume of "volcanic" ash hovering over the UK causing all flights to be cancelled. I heard these cards were hot runners but this takes it to new extremes I think. :D
