***THE OFFICIAL GTX480/470 END USER REVIEW THREAD***

Has anyone had a chance yet for some general in-game comparisons of the 480 vs the 5870, outside of benchmarks? I remember when the 280 came out and the 4870 512mb beat it in some benchmarks, with everyone going on about ATI's superior texture compression.. In the end the 280 absolutely stomped all over it when you were actually playing a game. I'm wondering if this is the same case here with the 480/5870 and 470/5850?

I have no access currently to a 5870 all I can say is that everything I've tried in game so far is a lot smoother (with the same or slightly better settings) than my old 280. The 5870 is a damn good card, generally better value for money than the 480. Whilst there is little doubt that the 480 is faster overall it only truly beats the 5870 hard with PhysX (for obvious reasons) and tesselation (although ATI have said they are working on improvements).

Based on what I've seen so far I would recommend the 480 if you don't mind paying significantly more than the 5870. The noise from the 480 (for me) has not been noticeable. Very happy with the 480, much happier than I expected to be :)

I grabbed the last flanfx 480 :D

Went out of stock as soon as I ordered and rang them in a panic. Really nice girl took my call and called the warehouse to see if I got lucky or not - wasn't expecting much. 5 minutes later she rang to confirm I got the last one and it had been shipped :D

I did pay more than £410 for it though... :(

Yeah its the Palit that was £410. Weird that the "budget/value" version (at least that what I thought it was supposed to be) costs more.
