***THE OFFICIAL GTX480/470 END USER REVIEW THREAD***

Dont bench with 2xAA whack it up. ;)

BTW is that really the scores for the 480 on Just cause 2? Looks really low? I havent played JC2 yet is it a demanding game?

its not demanding at all if you turn off gpu water you get 50%+ boost in any area you are in the game even if there is no sight of water. badly optimised crap shouldnt even make it into games

A big thank you for running that. This card looks like an AA monster which is the main reason why I want one. 32xAA and TRSAA are my main reasons for buying this card.

I got wound up with reviews that only benched games at 4xAA on a top end card that was getting way over 60fps. To me that was totally pointless as the whole reason for buying a top end gpu in my eyes is to whack up the AA.

For whatever reason AA (or the lack of) has never bothered me that much, I quite often run without any at all. Resolution has always come first. However 32xCSAA should be massively better than 2560x1600 even at 4x AA so I'm very impressed with that figure.

On another note I've just tried Silent Hunter 5. VERY subjectively it seems very smooth indeed in all views and is significantly smoother in the sub itself which stuttered and juddered a great deal with my 280 with identical settings.

Very impressed with the 480 atm.

EDIT: Downloading the Heaven benchmark now.

AA is the reason to buy a top end card, that and running a 2560x1600 display.

BTW thank you for taking the time to post up your benchmarks. :)

IIRC, CSAA is quite a bit less demanding on a system than FSAA. Someone will be along to correct me I'm sure. :p

Is it just me or is it weird that on the day when people are receiving a new top end gpu there seems so little being posted? Usually there's a dozen threads and loads of chatter, are there really that little cards going out?

Maybe everyone is at work or playing with their shiny new graphics cards.

Especially when it's not even on screen!

Yeah that is poor.

Unigine Heaven Benchmark 2.0

All settings default, resolution run 1 2560x1600

GTX480
31.9 Average
23.8 Min
64.5 Max
804 Score

First time I've actually seen this benchmark (other than screenshots and youtube). Incredible!

Run 2 @ 1920x1200

GTX480
47.3 Average
27.6 Min
99.3 Max
1191 Score

Ran test on Q6600 PCs with 9800GTX & 8800GTX as a comparison, I'm left it set to DX11 but obviously the cards are not actually running DX11
Both running at 1920x1200

9800GTX

27.6 Average
11.2 Min
57.1 Max
696 Score

Note: Ran the test again because of the lower min FPS compared to the 8800, still only got 12.6. Possible driver revision difference on the two machines, will check later.

8800GTX

26.5 Average
13.1 Min
52.7 Max

Well, just had an email from the e-tailer i ordered from saying the Palit is out of stock. Not too happy about that as it said in stock yesterday when i ordered!

Has anyone else who ordered the Palit at £410 had an email like this?

Yes I had the same problems mate, I phoned them up this morning and they told me I'd missed the boat.

However about half an hour later the girl that took my first phone call phoned me back and said they'd got some more in.

She asked me if I wanted to change my order over to the new in stock ones,

I obviously jumped at the chance, so it has just been picked and dispatched and will be with me tomorrow

I now have a flanfx ;) model coming which looks like it's a POV card judging by the web page.
