***The Official Guitar Thread***

I'm a bit like that prefer stuff that isn't damaged.

However when getting back into guitar I picked up a cheap beat up Pacifica. It's nice to have something you can hand to anyone and not be precious about it.
I did the same a few years back. Scuzzy gig? Questionable stage security? Mooer mini pedal board and el cheapo pacifica. Top tip, foil line the cavity. Cuts down the hum no end.

So the Mrs has given me the approval for the guitar tube amp build :D So I'm going to be ordering the parts pretty soon. Max this 2W will get to is an ear splitting 103dB at a meter which is akin to a hammer drill. Plenty loud enough. Decided that I'll use a G12M-65, even though the amp is 2W and not 65W it'll never get to speaker break up anyway (that'll be closer to 120dB with that speaker!!) - the next step will be to add a simple attenuator so the amp runs at full power but the speaker produces in the order of 80-90dB.

Sorry to be that man but the first album I bought by Vai was Flex-Able and then Passion & Warfare with Erotic Nightmare on.
Flex-Able Leftovers came after several albums.
If you haven't heard Flex-Able get your hands on it.

I thought he was best on Album, by PiL. His playing on that is great, and the spikiness works really well and supports the songs.

His solo stuff just doesn't grab me the way that Satriani can. I get he's technically great, but... *points at Allan Holdsworth*

KpaLhpU.jpeg Sold a couple of my Deans and then found this local. Been after one for years!

It’s a beast! Pinchy pinch pinch harmonics goooo!!
I only ever really get GAS when I hear something by a particular guitarist then want their signature guitar/gear...Zakk Wylde was one of them after hearing No More Tears, plans to fit active emg pickups never got off the ground.. here's No More Tears on a Slash inspired LP copy when I had a Kemper, right at my limits

Jesus Dude, a Fender strap on a Les Paul copy, you need counseling :)
Nice solo and tone.

Great playing! :)

The EMG's are amazing on this guitar, love it! I've played a "normal" Les Paul since 2001, but the last 6 months I've been picking up loads of Deans and some old Mustangs and Jags. coming back onto the Zakk Les Paul has made me realise I'm a Les Paul player, feels like home. They're such Chunky boys! :D

I'll write something up when they arrive and I change them. Might be a week or so because the current set still have some life in them.
Well finally changed them a couple of weeks ago and imho they are a massive improvement. I've read a few people say they had issues with them intonating because of them being 100% nikel but I've not had any problems at all. They sound so much better than the EB Regular Slinky's, significantly less tinny. With a bit of filth on the Orange amp they have a real dirty vintage tone from the LP. So pleased I've bought a load more.

Heard a few good things about the D'addario XL's as well so might try them at some point but really happy with the DR Pure Blues.

After hearing Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell last night, I thought I'd have a go. It's not that difficult.

It's pretty interesting to play, and is in open D (DADF#AD), which is a tuning I haven't tried before.

That tuning is also used in Big Yellow Taxi and Chelsea Morning.

I really need a steel string as it sounds a bit muddy on my classical.

slightly obsessive here but how good is the sound of this guitar...I'm rubbbish at identifying guitar/amp/gear sounds but can see it's not Brian May playing there and other guitar looks like it's a strat, wonder what the amp/whatever else is

time stamped at the bit...

good cover of the song too...

nahh...his hand's up at mic when that lick's getting played! it's a lovely snarly bitey sounding guitar :D

It's the guitarist to the left of May, some kind of Black Strat with EMG (or looks like it anyway) pickups.

I've only skipped through the entire concert but looks like that little bit in 'Since you've been gone' is one of the few 'solos' Mr Strat (Jamie Moses) gets :p
Queen/Brian May is one of the bands that got me in to guitar but he could have gave the other guy some more lead bits!
