***The Official Guitar Thread***

Knowledgeable folk. I quite often like to record little bits of guitar and record vids etc. Just personal and share with friends etc. I've just been using my phone which is terrible. If I wanted to move up a level, what is involved?

My Laney has DI out on the rear with cab emulation. So would I just use an XLR cable and connect from that, to say either a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 4th Gen or 2i2 4th Gen (XLR input on the rear)? I was confused how to then get that to the PC, does it just work via USB-C and comes bundled with software?

Cheers.
Yes, the Scarletts' main role is as an audio interface i.e. it connects your audio gear to your PC. Very popular choice, can't go wrong with a Scarlett for voice or guitars it seems.

Well, I tried playing Giuliani's Grand Overture today, for the first time in years. It is no longer impossible- just very, very hard.

Also found out I have been playing Bach's Sarabande in Bm WAY too fast. This is good!

I have a Arturia Mini-fuse 1. A single input but has pre-gain of required, plus phantom power for microphones etc it also has headphone output too. Note it's an interface so you'd need something software like to record it.

From what I've read, most direct recording now is actually recording the guitar directly and not the amp, then post processing it. Depending on the software there can be a little lag between playing and the processed output.

If you want to record the amp output - that could be done with it too.

As always, the more inputs the more processing power required on the computer.

I go straight from my guitar through my pedalboard and then into the Focusrite (mine is a 1st gen 6i6 but they are all similar) and then use NeuralDSP plugins or the like. Works well even though I do miss my 20W Class A valve amp I had to sell when we had a baby and it was too loud to play

If anyone fancies picking up some new gear today...

I wonder how much his Strat (Lot 62P) will go for.
Well, the Gallagher Strat only went for £700k in the end. However, at the time, the bidding seemed fishy and suddenly stopped at £700k, which was the lower end of the estimate. Once the auction had finished, the news came out that Live Nation Gaiety Ltd, which owned MCD, and Ticketmaster had purchased and donated to the Irish National Museum.

I'm glad that the guitar is staying in Ireland however it will be a shame that it will most likely sit behind glass and not be played. :( I am also slightly disappointed that the auction didn't live up to its hype and the potential price was realised.

I wanted a practice amp for home use and spotted a B-Stock Laney SuperLF60 1x12 on offer at a dealer. Because reviews are generally good and it has a 1w output mode it seemed a good choice, so I placed my order. Today this turned up:

Not a 1x12 but the 2x12 version. Also a B-Stock because the box had obviously been opened before, however other than that nothing to differentiate it from a new one. Well I suppose I got a more expensive amp for my money but still not sure whether to send it back because I was expecting a smaller cabinate to accomodate (albeit the floor footprint is the same), and a 2x12 even at 1w is way more volume than I need. Decisions decisions...

Probably come as no surprise but my first gig with a band is next Saturday, it is two members of the band I split from and even at 66 I can't give it up.
On stage I use a Line 6 helix LT but earlier this year I bought the Hotone Ampero.
I decided that both these pedals are still like taking a sledgehammer to crack a walnut so two weeks ago I bought this impressive pedal.
I've got 5 sounds programmed into it and it's all I need for stage.

I'm trying to play Neon by John Mayer today. Bottom E drops to C, otherwise standard tuning.

It's less difficult than I thought, but he sings while playing it...

Today I spent at a guitar tech course focused on setup.

Of the 7 students:
* jazz player
* heavy metal band member (Laura of Esoterica)
* session player
* cruise ship band member
* music teacher that teaches guitar at school but needed to understand accoustic setup

Was a good session with Guitar Tech near Heathfield.
