The Official Hearthstone : Heroes of Warcraft Thread

I've watched streams of people playing for about a month, then I finally decided to get a key as it was only $8.

I'm pretty terrible at it myself though :D Got a 5/9 classes to level 10, then did my first arena and went 4-3. Next arena was 5-3, then 2-3 and today 1-3 :'(

I have seen players worse than me, and outplayed a few people, but I need to rack up a lot more hours before I can go infinite in arena.

I'm really enjoying it though. Played for 6 hours straight last night without realising.

I tried arena last night for the time and had tons fun, even if I didn't set the world on fire performance wise.

Went
3-3
1-3 (ouch! Terrible Mage burn deck I drafted)
8-3 (cool hunter beast deck)
7-3
5-3

The most fun game I had was one I actually lost!

My priest opponent used a card which randomly picks a minion from my deck, and puts it in to play. So he plays the card, and gets....Deathwing!!! From my deck.

Im cursing my luck...then I topdeck a Vaporise!! A card I hadnt even wanted to draft, but the other choices were awful.

Deathwing swings into it next turn and dies, it was classic. I went on to lose that game....but it was hilarious!

Got each class to level 10 and got 100 gold for doing that, then 300 gold for playing a total of 100 games. I used some of the gold for another failed arena run :D

*** Beta key has gone, sorry guys ****

I've been spending my gold on packs, is that not a good idea?

Spending gold on packs is fine, its just depends on how you want to play.

Arena costs 150 gold (vs 100 for buying a pack). For that, you get a guaranteed pack, plus a chance at extra gold & cards depending on how many games you win. It is also a lot of fun - you get to use cards you wouldn't otherwise, and see cards played that you might not in constructed.

But if you want to stick to constructed, there is nothing wrong with buying the packs.

aye, if you get far enough in arena you can get enough gold back for another run too.

I think you needed to accept it wasn't going to get fixed last night ><

Looking at the twitter feed it links you to this morning before I went out for work it still isn't fixed and it looks like they've been to bed (assuming the servers are actually based in the EU).

I may have finally got a key last night too just in time for the downtime ^^

What does 'Constructed' mean?

I'm guessing he means the "play mode" where you can use your own customised decks you create. Rather than Arena which is a batch of random cards you pick but do not actually own.

I was wondering why it wasn't working yday so I poped onto the Blizz forums. Jesus the amount of people moaning.... its in beta. I also noticed that apprently a shed load of people on there are also paying real money to play arena and buy cards  why would you do such a thing ! its not like any of your cards or things you earned will stay once they release the game  I really don't get people sometimes :p

I think if you pay real cash it gets refunded to you as gold when they do a reset, so you don't lose it (and can just buy 1000s of packs at once right off the bat :D)

Anyone else keeping up with TB's deck of 30 Legendaries on his channel? So funny :p! He keeps trying to deny that the deck is good to prove a point but it's very rare that he doesn't win by a mile so long as he manages to make it past the first 5 or 6 turns without getting rushed down.

(In case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about - TotalBiscuit on youtube has build a Hearthstone deck which consists of 30 legendary cards - well, all 28 legendaries available in the game to a single class plus 2 faceless manipulators which can clone an existing minion to make up the 30)

Apparently, the devs have stated that there will be no further card wipes before release.

I think not having a wipe before release is weird.

Considering it is still in closed beta, and having a large card pool from which to make decks is such a massive advantage - it is going to be much tougher on new players when the game goes fully live, which is very un-Blizzard like.

Last I saw it was at around 24 legendaries and he still had no chance early game. You might crush people late game but he lost something like 3 games in a row before finally getting a good start to actually survive the first few turns.

I just see people mentioning constructed, 'I play constructed' for example. So in Arena you don't own any of the cards but can pick from all of them to build a deck?

Yeah sorry I should have been more specific earlier.

"Constructed" is a term from another Card game called "Magic: The Gathering". It means a format in which you choose your own cards to put in your deck from your collection - in Hearthstone terms it is the equivalent of "Play" mode.

You are half correct about Arena, you can pick cards that you don't own, but there is a big, big, catch!

In Arena:

1. You are initially presented with a choice of 3 random heroes, and need to choose one of them. So here there is a risk you could be stuck with a hero you aren't familiar with, or even like.

2. You are then shown 3 cards randomly picked from all neutral cards and all cards from your chosen hero card pool. You can only pick one of them.

3. Step #2 is repeated 30 times until you have enough cards for a deck.

4. You then pit your deck against other players who have been through the same process, and see how you go!!!

Some interesting things about arena:

- Since the cards you are presented with each time are random, it is possible to have more than two cards of each type in your deck. For example, over the weekend, I drafted a Mage deck with 5 (yes, 5!!) Fireball spells.

- Sometimes you get three bad choices, and have to pick a poor card. Its bad luck, but it happens.

- Sometimes you have to skip over really good cards because (for example) you are up to your 25th card and have no removal, or heavy hitters, etc.

Its quite fun and each Arena playthrough is unique. You are playing against others that are playing with sub-optimal cards too so you never know what is going to happen each game.

It throws up lots of choices between 3 cards. You get to pick 1. Then a new set of 3 cards. Repeat until the deck is full. So you need to pick carefully.
