The Official Hearthstone : Heroes of Warcraft Thread

Ah. Well it's a nice discount, I might buy that anyway!

Love the new inspire mechanic. I'm just concerned it's going to make the classes with better hero powers a little too strong though. Warlock's life tap is already used almost every turn, yet as Paladin for example you don't often summon a dude unless you have spare mana late game.

How on earth do you get thousands of gold. I barely able to scrape together 100 for a pack per few days. Do you never use gold and play for a whole 6 months to a year or somit? Or is it gained through arena which i never do as i dont like random cards and prefer constructed and just do quests.

Arena is awesome!!! And totally the way to go once you get used to it...

For an extra 50 gold you're still getting your 1 guaranteed pack, and so long as you manage to win 3 games before you get knocked out you generally make back at least your 50 gold. Any wins beyond that you end up with extra gold + dust on top - adds up quickly

If you can hit ~10+ wins relatively consistently the gold really starts to stack up

I dislike Arena now as I no longer need GVG cards. Once the change comes in for it to be all 3 packs randomly it will be much better imo

Played for the first time in ages last night. Had a go in arena. Lost my first 2 games then won my next 4...With the right draw you can get some quite cheap victories with Anduin;)

Well I'm happy to say it looks like this month will be the best month ever for me -> I've climbed all the way to the lofty heights of rank 12 so far (previously I've tended to get stuck at around rank 15). It's not great but it's a start :p

i wish i could say the same, the last 2 months ive climbed to rank 12/11 on day 2 and never got any further

All about cheesing the cheesiest aggro decks ;) so for me that's been Zoo and Face Hunter all the way (though not any specific net-decked version as I don't have all the required cards; I've just gone for something roughly "in the spirit" of those styles)

all i faced the last 2 days is aggro decks. its quite hard on me as im sticking to handlock at the moment. whenever i switch i end up facing the counter to the deck i switch too.

I noticed this too as your on my f/list but why do you think you are stalling out so early? If you can make 11 in the first 2 days of the season then you're beating decent players and you should be able to make Rank 5 by seasons end.

i have no clue.

I make it up to that rank early and then i seem to play the counter to every deck i choose. its so frustrating and disheartening as i then end up back at rank 16/17

i dont change the way i play or anything i just seem to hit the counter, multiple times i play the counter so i change the deck and its just rinse and repeat.

past 2 months despite hitting rank 11/12 ive never managed to get past that rank by the end of the season. my goal was to hit legend at least once this year, i just wanna get there once. but ive got no hope.

after so many losses i just make a random deck for myself and mess around the rest of the season. ive been using handlock again and got back down to rank 12 at the moment but ive faced 3 face/mid hunters which isnt going well.

Lodjik, so some advice. would you stick to one deck constantly? no matter if you lose multiple times in a row?

ive currently deleted every deck i had and have a handlock and a demonzoo. (warlock/mage is my favourite classes)

I think you do need to stick to one deck... not to the point of bombing right back down the rankings but certainly more than a couple of games...

You'll never win every match no matter what deck you're playing, but you're looking to simply average a win-rate of over 50%; do this and you're climbing (possibly slowly, but still climbing)...

The problem with switching up decks too often is that you don't play enough games to get a feel for whether your current choice is getting a high enough average win rate or not. I don't really know what the magic number is but maybe try sticking out the same deck a while longer before impulsively changing it

Edit: (for some rough silly numbers as an example)

Pick deck #1... play 10 (?) games... did you win 50% or more of those? If not then what type of deck did you seem to face (and lose to) the most? Did you actually just get unlucky in some match-ups and lose to a deck which your deck should have been a counter to? Factoring in all this stuff isn't trivial but the nature of the game means you've got to try and look for longer-term patterns. These will vary from day to day, ranking to ranking, server to server as well so it's something you have to do on-the-fly

after every 3rd loss in a row i would change decks.

start of the season has been start at rank 20/19 and then not lose a game til 15/14 then lose a couple and then win again on the trot to 12/11 its hear where my story ends :(

i always thought the start of the season is where it would be the hardest as all the good players would be around there also? unless rank 12/11 is where im hitting the legendary players and hence why im losing.

I'm not sure about the start of the season being hardest - yes the top players will (briefly) be at lower ranks, but so will the rest of the vast pool of players. So while you are more likely to run into Mr.Pay2Win early on in the season it's only very slightly more likely than any normal player

The exact way the "layers" of different players form in the rankings is fairly complex I imagine, as some break through, others settle at particular ranges etc. with everyone changing strategies all the time. This is why it's important to play the long game sometimes and rely on statistics to tell you whether what you're playing is paying off...

im missing 30 legendarys but have every other card in the game currently. 80 dust away from another legend aswell.

im sure legend players start at rank 12 at the start of the season.

It depends how the losses occur. If i'm losing through my own misplays, RNG or my opponent drawing better than me then I don't blame the deck and keep playing. If I'm losing because the deck just isn't matching up well against the classes I'm facing the most or my tech cards aren't helping then it's probably time to switch things up. I track my stats (if playing on PC) and play at least 20 games (as stats are inaccurate with a sample size less than 25) and if the WR is 60% or above then it's working.

I've made legend with 3 different classes and each of those 3 decks I knew every single match up perfectly and exactly which cards to mulligan for in every situation. For me this is the key to doing well. Being 100% comfortable with your deck of choice and knowing it and its match ups inside out.

Another very common mistake I see from people in double digit ranks is "playing not to lose" which is basically putting yourself on the back foot in place of making a stronger play.

i wish i could track stats on my phone. 99% of my hearthstone gameplay is done on my phone. when im on pc i play CSGO (is used to dual screen and have HS running on 2nd monitor which meant i could play a lot more games on pc but im down to 1 screen at the moment while living at inlaws place)
