The Official Hearthstone : Heroes of Warcraft Thread

I think the standard deck ladder will be awsome.

The new LoE cards are great but are not as OP as the naxx and mech decks so have hardly had a chance....

Love the new RNG with DISCOVER instead of the mech REPLACE X with Similar

Also expect various classic cards to get revamped.

It also means the new decks can feature revamped versions of the old cards.

Ie with the new expansion we'll probably see a revamped sludge belcher or even an Dr Boom but called Dr Doom (perhaps not ;) )

Not only that if you really don't like the changes then you can still play wild ladder exactly as you did before.

You can also craft the old cards without buying the expansions which will benefit a lot of new players.

So yup it's a great move by Blizz can't wait to get started.

New play mode sounds awful and will lead to fewer deck possibilities and a more stale meta game. Decks that have been borderline viable but are just missing a few cards will now not come to fruition (control hunter, beast druid etc.). Bliz should have introduced a catch up mechanic so new players can get the older cards and combine this with innovative cards that shake up the meta such as Reno. I hope the new play mode fails and everyone keeps playing 'wild mode'.

The opposite of what you say will happen.

Some decks that get stomped by the same old cards that have been out for 2 years will now have a chance no more scientist, sludge, Dr OP.

Mech mage is effectively dead. No more healbots, don't forget this is happening with a new expansion so expect some of the cards to (reappear) but with different names.

The meta is very stale at the moment and this will totally revamp it.

It also means each new expansion will renew the decks.

Of course it's all about money, Blizzard isn't doing this game for free.

The last expack that came out I read a fair few posts from people who didn't feel the need to pay for the expansion since none of the cards were better than naxx and GVG so they bought with gold.

Now if you want a deck to be good from day 1 of expansion you're gonna have to pay.

An annually shifting format is never going to be more stale than an unchanging format where no new card can be introduced unless it's more powerful or directly counters one of the existing strategies.

Hearthstone has a problem, and that problem is getting new players into the game. It's meant to be potentially F2P, but the more sets there are the harder it becomes to get into the game without dropping coin and you can only get Adventure cards by buying them. By streamlining the main constructed format, new players win because they have to buy fewer adventures and there are fewer sets of packs to acquire cards from. Blizzard win because they get more players and players are money. The only people who lose are the people who already have their deck and want it to stay the best deck forever - and they're the ones who are making the metagame stale.

People who have never played other CCGs are underestimating how important formats like this are for these games to be successful in the long term. MtG would have died long ago if it wasn't for the introduction of the same Standard format that HS is now mirroring.

Only thing for me is I can't decide whether to keep all my Naxx/GVG cards, or just dust the lot of them, as I don't know if I'll ever play wild.

Do you think there is any chance they might cycle sets back in? Like GVG returning for a few months?

MooMoo I doubt they will cycle them back in they will probably (read definitely) be new cards based on the same values.

They can easily now in the new expansion create Drudge Farter a 5 mana card Taunt that summons a 1/2 smell with Taunt.

Yes! Exactly like Sludge but usable in standard play.

wild mode in a couple of years will be completely broken since the new cards will be made for standard only and will be OP when combined with old Naxx cards.

totally agree with this but you should read the posts in battle.net

more cheese with your whine :p

They should still keep the old expansions though for fun, call it practice mode....

And they should build some sort of card trading app.

Stupid question time - will you still be able to buy and play Naxx, i.e. the change wouldn't effect someone buying Naxx just to play and unlock those cards (even if they end up unusable in this new standard format)?

If the adventures are removed totally I hope we get refunded. Otherwise why did we buy em for if not for cards even tho I liked the voices and bosses it was the cards we got em for mainly because others had em.

OK thank you for the answers. Feels a bit naff that the solo content wouldn't still be playable (I.e. that has no effect on playing others) but I guess the expansions are about the guaranteed cards as mentioned.

I only hope that wild still is usable to finish quests for gold and that it stays around and isn't a temp thing as I've got a feeling it might be temporary to appease the Ppl with their decks they don't want to lose but eventually will be forced to standard after a certain time otherwise the community will be split too much with half playing wild for their certain usable card decks and the others that crave new meta decks that are willing to give up on cards they played for to play new cards and decks. Which I can't see happening for too long as I said I think wild will be a temporary option but their plans long term will be to get everyone on standard for money purposes.

You can all still play wild and get the legend cardback and rewards and people will organise plenty of Wild tournaments and events. It will be around forever just as Legacy is in MTG.

All they're doing is introducing the Standard format which keeps the game constantly evolving, more competitive and lowers the barrier of entry for newcomers just like it did, and does, in MTG.

If you have the expansions they will still be there.

They are only removing them from the store so new players won't see them.

Let's be straight Blizzard sees Standard as "the game"

Wild is left to allow casual players to play crazy decks but after a while it will be very unbalanced as they won't balance the cards for wild... :o

Understood. I guess it's a shame an adventure pack would no longer be available to buy or play if you didn't have it (purely as an SP mode - not talking about the cards in main MP modes).

Another year, I think? I believe the way it will work is that when the first expansion or adventure is released in a year, anything that wasn't released the previous year rotates out of Standard.
