The Official Hearthstone : Heroes of Warcraft Thread

I downloaded this a few nights ago :)

Got it working on linux and think this is going to be a good game to play on my linux netbook.
Still learning the game by unlocking the base class cards, didn't think I'd get into it so much.

I've been watching some videos on youtube and had a look on heartpwn for deck info, also reading the beginner guide on /r/hearthstone

Are there any other good sites or guides anyone can recommend for learning more about the game?

Watch Trump/MasSan/Forsen/Kolento on twitch. They generally stream every day - Trump is especially good as he commentates his thoughts. That will allow you to see what is played and why

  • Trump is beginner friendly and has done several low cost decks for beginners (he's got to legend on cheap warlock zoo deck, mage deck, shaman and probably others I have forgotten) and quite possibly the nicest person on the internet. He's an ex SC2 player and highly skilled. Trump plays a lot of ranked when he's not doing a specific task (he's currently learning miracle rogue by watching forsen) and this is part of the attraction of his stream.
  • Massan is asian Trump but plays a tighter set of decks, also extremely nice. Mostly ranked, some arena.
  • Forsen is a swedish guy addicted to snus but the highest rank of all people mentioned. Famous for his miracle rogue play, his stream is a extremely amusing to me for content and music (he uses plug dj and it's results are.... different). Plays ranked almost exclusively.
  • Kolento is a poker faced Ukrainian who plays a bunch of decks extremely well (especially good at giants/druid/miracle rogue/hunter). He doesn't talk as much as the rest but the main draw here is the skill on display. Mostly plays ranked
  • Amaz is the worlds best/only high level priest from hongkong. Has the ability to draw any card he likes from his deck by asking for it and is most likely, RNGesus. Hilarious to watch, priest is a hard deck at the best of times. Plays ranked mostly.
  • KrippenNL (Krip) The king of bad manners, Krips very popular in the daytime and plays a lot of arena as well as ranked. Very laid back, fun to watch in shorter amounts to me.
  • Hafu is another streamer from the US who plays arena a lot and is quite a bit more aggressive than trump (trump clears the board more, hafu goes for face).

They all play at different times of the day but the evening slot is mostly the domain of trump. Early evening is forsen/kolento and daytime is mostly the domain of amaz/massan. A lot of female streamers play HS as well although there seems to be a spate that are relying on the fact that they are female for a lot of their viewership (which the exception of Hafu here who I have a lot of respect for)

^ I like Forsen but can't stand the music. If you 'like' the music then you would also like Nabutte.

I echo that Trump is great for beginners. Realz, Lifecoach & Dog also explain their plays in a lot of detail. I normally watch streamers with < 200 viewers as they interact with viewers a lot more and don't have the retards spamming chat.

Some other suggestions:
- Freegold3 - Rogue player, makes and tests new decks all the time with interesting/crazy results.
- Otter - Freeze mage, very chilled stream.
- Firebat - Exceptional Druid player.
- NoxiousHS - Plays weird troll decks for fun & profit
- Puffin - Legendary Warrior

175/500 ranked wins on my war now.

I can only imagine the people that have golden heroes all sit on hearthstone 24/7?

although I've only saw 2 so far

He is indeed a great streamer although I don't watch him for that, I watch him for how moody he gets when he's losing (and then the amazing twitch chat salt brigade). He's been a catalyst for meta changes though and that's big stuff. Lifecoach I rate up there with the best for game knowledge, hope he comes back soon.

This brings up the point of how good hearthstone is to watch - It's a very simple game and you can instantly see what's happening and where tempo is just by looking at the current board yet the choices you make essentially make the game so good to view. Would I make the same choices on that turn? Why did he pick that card in arena? That sort of thing (and the little tricks like drawing cards off healing totems as a priest) make it so good to me.

Naxx card back looks nice:

I watched Reckful playing for about a month before public beta and I had absolutely no idea what was going on but I knew I wanted to play it when it was released :p

I wish Hearthstone were just a bit more complex. 2-3 abilities, terrain, etc. It's too casual for me, I've played too many games to get "gripped" by it.

You can even trade cards with other players or sell them to other players ^_^
the ingame store has a few individual cards you can buy which changes every so often as well and each player gets offered a different selection so sometimes you can just buy cards and sell them straight on for profit :D

lol I just got up to a silly amount of armour :D

even without gorehowl as my last card I doubt he could have done enough damage in the 5 cards he had left in his deck :D

Well I climbed back to level 20 with a Ramp/token Druid build from 23 tonight in 8 games. Got derailed once in the process due to luck of the cards.

Not sure that I should bother going for legendary this season due to the Meta about to change so massively. Its going to be a while before it settles as folks get all the collectable cards as each wing opens.

So its either push for it solid for the next week or two in the hopes I can get it before the first wing opens or farm more gold and relax :D

Ladder feels even more aggro than usual for the start of a season. Can't bring myself to play zoo so made an aggro/burst rogue deck. Working surprisingly well so far :)

Turn 1 - Coin defias ring leader, shadow step, defias again. 3 minions on board :p
