***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

Can't wait seems though Igot my brand new spanking HP Touchpad today :)

Edit: Also looking to pair it up with SG2 (eventually).

This is probably more of an Android question, but since the TouchPad doesnt have inbuilt GPS will it be possible to receive GPS data from an external source? (when/if Android is converted for TP)

I remember having a Nokia 5800 and there was a program that made it act as a Bluetooth GPS adaptor, so my netbook could pick up GPS data from the phone.

Just wondering if the apps already exist in Android to have one Android device (the TouchPad) receive the data from another device (an Android Mobile phone)?

Nice it seems like Android is not far off according to quite a few people...

I'm a total Android noob, which version will be ported? Eclair? 2.4? All these cakes and numbers can get confusing... :o

And as far as I know, the newer the version the better?

It's quite simple really, the first letter of the 'cake' tells you if it is newer. ie. Gingerbread beginning with a G is after Froyo with an F.

FroYo probably

Why probably? It's Gingerbread that is being ported, why randomly post if you don't know - I've never understood why people do this. :D

Anybody know if the current rumours of a late release at the end of October of 200000 HP Touchpad units is likely?

The TP does have GPS?

really, even tho android tablets run honeycomb?

Strange, my Gingerbread based Galaxy Tab and HTC Flyer must be figments of my imagination then. ;)

But yes, they are porting Gingerbread to the Touchpad because the source for Honeycomb hasn't been released. Gingerbread works fine as a tablet OS.

Yes, I have used google maps with it.

Oh dear Lord, LOL!

Did you try google maps navigation by taking the TouchPad outside and walking along the road with it? It's a WiFi only device, there's no SIM or 3G so the minute you are out of range of a signal, it will die.

However, the CM guys seem to suggest the hardware might be there, possible it could be utilised through USBOTG?

Also on a GPS note.

Seeing as it uses WiFi for location it gets my home location scarily accurate like......just as accurate as a GPS lock.

I get very accurate readings too but isnt this just a result from the Google Street View Project?

When they did this they captured all the SSID's they encountered and mapped the results,
as time goes on and people move houses/change their routers wont the results get less precise - or are Google constantly sending round their cars updating Street View?

Android phones report this info too. (if you enabled location services, which most people would have)

same here, and tbh I'm not sure how I'd feel about them doing that, it was exactly this which they got thrashed by governments for.:(
