***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

My USB cable has broken and now i cant charge my HP touchpad! Plugging a standard USB cable into the charger my touchpad throws up a complaint and doesnt charge ( complaint saying you need the official cable)

Where can i get a new cable? bought one on the bay but thats the same problem!

I *think* it's a USB OTG cable or something isn't it? Uses a 5th pin or something like that.
Same problem exists for getting car chargers.

EDIT: I also seem to recall if you turn the device off, and plug it in to the USB, it will actually charge, just amazing slowly. Worth a go.

Poster called "Wheel_nut" on these forums who seems to know a lot about it.

http://forums.precentral.net/

quoting him:
There are two separate factors determining the TouchPad's ability to accept charge:

1) The configuration of the Data+ and Data- lines in the Charger. The TouchPad will only charge if the Data lines are bridged and a potential divider applied giving the correct Voltage and Impedance

2) The Charger's ability to supply the (up to) 2 Amps which the TouchPad will draw if it senses the correct configuration described in 1) above. Beware that frigging a cable to allow the TouchPad to draw its full current may overload an iPod Charger though an iPad charger is capable of delivering up to 2.1 Amps.

Caveat: If you don't understand my ramblings, DON'T play with this!

Good to know should the cable ever die.

I've just purchased a modified in-car dual USB socket charger from "Wheel_nut" on the precentral forums. He's up in Scotland and modifying these for those who request them. £18+a little postage a pop.

Tried charging through the cable? Leave for a good while, then attempt to turn on.
Power+volume up attempts to boot from USB doesn't it?
Power+select does a reset I think.

Can someone please enlighten me? I have updated my TP to 3.04 (which is a pretty poor update) but seem to have lost some of the functionality of the patches I had installed on 3.02. AFAIK the only thing I needed to worry about when updating was the OC patch which I have resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling the profile/patch that works with 3.04.

What about the others? I can't restart the machine any more. Is it best to go through the set up guide on Precentral and manually check the list of patches against mine? Do all of those patches even work on 3.04? Or should I just wipe, update and start the guide again? Finally will there be an update to 3.04 any time soon? I can't believe it got past QA!

I lost all my tweaks when going to 3.04.

I guess the tweaks may need to be updated?

I'm very much behind in the Touchpad game. Any guides I should check out, don't know if I want to put Android on there - I'm not sure if I need it, quite happy with WebOS but happy to see any new functionality things and whatnot that I'm missing out on.

There are pretty much zero drawbacks from changing to android, it would be silly not to try it out.
