***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

For those that overclocked to 1.5Ghz have you noticed:

i) A noticeable performance increase?
ii) Decrease in battery life?

How safe is the overclock itself?

Performance is a bit snappier though I can't say it's made a major difference to either performance or battery. It should be safe as it's effectively a 1.5Ghz chip underclocked to 1.2.

However I'll note that some people have reported some odd problems since overclocking, such as websites no longer loading properly or an increased amount of freezing. I had exceptionally slow connection speeds myself when I tried one of the 1.7Ghz kernels. This seems most likely something to do with the modified kernels rather than the CPU speed though (lowering the speed with the same kernel didn't fix it for me).

what was the cheapest way to get kalemsoft video app, as i am sure i read its cheaper if you buy it a different way?
also is there anyway of doing the same for the advanced web browser?

as these are the only 2 apps i really could do with

The rubber seal around my TP screen has a rubbish fit, it's all over the place. :(

I've also realised though use that the TP isn't the best tablet for reading stuff while eating or in high dust environments with those surface gaps. At £480 I would have taken it straight back for shoddy build quality. The ipad 2's near seamless front bezel is far better in that regard. Not really complaining for £105 however. :)

On the subject of kernel stability, I tried out some others like the warthog and phantom. They are appallingly unstable, I can't see how anyone uses them as apps crash all the time. It even randomly reboots while doing nothing. I have noticed that Skype calls are perfectly stable on the stock kernel and can cope with video going on/off while multitasking but the uberware will eventually crash (same clock speeds for both kernels) if the convo goes on for too long or video is used and dropped more than once.

I may end up going back to the stock kernel but I'd rather use the ipad for skype and keep the speed. :p:D

If you look around it is possible to find places you can download apps from.

I bought advanced browser the other day. Only complaints are it seems to be a bit slower compared to the stock ind and TVCatchup doesn't work to well.n

For me, it just worked. Username of [email protected] and password. Just done the rest itself. I did set it up as an exchange. Only gets emails though, no calender.

I know. Thats what it should do. All the guides say so :(

I enter the email address and password with the exchange and it just keeps coming up "2bad username and/or password"

I even entered the settings manually, no joy.

Access it via browser with same details and it lets you in. Even more worryingly/oddly is that after I tried to set up the exchange email and failed and went to the browser it logged me in automatically with the bloddy same hotmail address and password

Anyone using bhome?

what do I have to do on my pc to make files accessible to bhome?

I have installed it. It recognise my PC, and a limited selection of folders and files are already visible. I have not knowingly done anything to make these files visible. As far as I can tell the folders that are visible are totally random. What do I need to do to make my music folder available for example?

So I turned it on for the first time, signed into my wifi and it finds it and password accepted.

then nothing?

I can't move on?

Heh, I just looked closely at mine and the rubber seal protrudes above the screen on the side of the volume buttons, and on the speaker side the seal is below the screen level.

The volume button isn't a snug fit and moves around if you tap/slide it, again not something you would want in a £400 device.
