*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

I love this phone. Initially, my eyes were set to this N1, but having seen this HTC Bravo (1Ghz Snapdragon), I blinked and now my eyes diverted to this cool phone. I love the idea of an "optical" centre button (instead of creepy trackball).

It's clever that this optical button has no "moving parts", akin to turning your laser mouse upside down, and use your finger over the laser sensor. Cool!

Dying to know how much will they sell at both contract and sim-free versions. I am 100% certain that there won't be any exclusivity as Google refuses to allow any network companies to "secure" exclusivity to any Android-powered mobiles (correct me if I'm wrong).

Move aside, iPhone, here comes HTC Bravo!

Latest photo of the HTC Bravo as sourced from Android.com.pl (polish site). I really, really, do WANT that phone, right now! Despite that rumours has it that it'll be released end of March/beginning of April this year with T-Mobile as the first network operator to use.

Can't wait.

One thing I noticed is that this phone, although it does have WiFi capability, it can only use b & g bands, but not n band. (Nexus One uses all 3 types of WiFi). Maybe it's a typo somewhere.

I sincerely hope this Bravo phone does have WiFI n as well as b/g.

Can't wait.....

Or what about this: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18106968

If it comes out over here in a reasonable time frame...

I prefer the supersonic look, actually looks stylish unlike the Bravo, which looks like it's been hit with an ugly stick...

Having said that the X10 is looking good too... And the HD2 is still beautiful, with a possible upgrade to WM7 (which may be sublime!)... Hmmmmmm

I personally like the look of the Supersonic far more than the Bravo - thing is with the bravo coming out at the same time as my contract ends... I know how rubbish I am when it comes to new gadgets...

isn't supersonic meant for a 4g (LTE iirc) network, meaning it might not work on our 3.5g ones.

I'm on the fence on the bravo design wise. I want a decent car dock etc (motorola droid spoilt me there) but I also want the 1Ghz cpu from the nexus etc.

So far the design of the bravo is looking a little unfinished in these images but I'll wait till we get a decent shot before judging completely.

The rumour of the legend (hero update) having a wvga screen sounds good though :)

I am still interested in the Bravo version, although the Supersonic sounded cool, being with the biggest screen ever, but am unsure of any possible problems with the "touch" keys near the bottom? I would prefer some physical keys somewhere, which Bravo does have. Besides, why would anyone want an obsessively large screen? I know that having a large screen would look great when watching a MPEG4 movie, but it doesn't give that much extra compared with 3.7 inches, is there?

Does anyone know whether Bravo has Wifi with "n" technology, in addition to the existing "b" and "g", too?

I don't like WM7 since as it is a proprietary software and while it does look cool, it's just cool but not adequately customisable, unlike the open-source Android version which are highly customisable. (See those iPhone users, they're all look the same with same square tile icons, how boring). Moreover, virus writers are more than likely to target WM7 than the Android.

Don't get me wrong, I know that there are thousands of you who absolutely love WM7, by all means go for it (it is your choice after all). I am only expressing my own views, that's all.

Enough said, I can't wait to see this Bravo hitting the T-Mobile shops!

If WM7 is even remotely like Sense, we will be able to customise the crap out of it, as people currently do with WM6.5

As for 4.3" screens... 0.6" is actually a fair bit of screen, I wouldn't want to go back (but then I have big hands).

I think you're a little confused. WM7 is not even released yet, no one knows what it even looks like. :p

As for propriotory software, that's like saying windows vista/7 is proprietory. If WM7 is anything like WM6.1 and 6.5 then it will be infinately customisable, just look at the difference between the HTC WM devices, the Omnia and the TG01, all run WM and all look totally different.

WM was originally designed fro business, as a "Pocket PC", which is why it has lagged behind in some respects to Android and the iPhone OS, it wasn't designed as a wholely phone oriented piece of software. :)

Also why are virus writers more likely to target WM7? Virus writers will always target the biggest share of the market, which at the moment is symbian, there is also already at least one virus out there for iPhones. :p

Doesn't look too appealing to me. Why do Android phones all have to have some sort of trackball? I mean, what's the point with a touchscreen?

I have to admit, I think the N1 looks gastly, the Bravo looks a bit nicer. I still think the HD2 is nicest after the iPhone :)

Fair point there. While it's true that WM7 isn't even released yet (as you say) but from what I've known from these likes of big companies like Microsoft or Apple, it's STILL a proprietary operating system, one way or the other. I advocate open-source variants as they are usually more secure. One does wonder why a paid-for Windows 7 can easily be infected with viruses (if a anti-virus is poorly configured, either freeware or paid for) while an absolutely free Linux operating system (open source) appears pretty secure against viruses.

That's my own views, anyway. The HD2 sounds lovely, and if you say that they're customisable, that may be so, but I'd still rather opt for Open-Source variants over proprietary.

I welcome any constructive criticism, however, I do not want to instigate any 'flame' wars over this WM7/Android/Apple argument. That's because each are very, very, good and it's all down to consumer's choice.

There is a big difference between Apples mobile OSX and WinMo, one is available only on one piece of hardware, the other given away to anyone that wants it (essentially), have a quick check what proprietory actually means (I think i'm right in this) :) That's why WM and Android are far more customisable than mobile OSX (to an extent, you also have apples "we know best" attitude), they need to work on multiple different types of hardware, just like proper OSs.

As for the virus issue, I already pointed that out, there are viruses for macs and there are viruses for Linux, however there are no where near as many for one good reason. Why spend ages writing and deploying a virus for an operating system that has less than a few % of the market when there is one you can write it for that can infect up to 90% of the PCs sold? Pretty much the only reason someone writes a virus for OSX or linux is because they have a specific reason to, either a hatred of the software or a specific person/piece of data/spoftware. :)

EDIT: It appears I am slightly wrong with the use of proprietary, however my point still stands, WinMo is still far more open than mobile OSX.

I also could not go back to a smaller screen having got used to the large screen on the HD2. It is a joy to use to read ebooks/pdfs and watch stuff on the move.

Have to agree with those concerned about the design of Bravo, definately think it does not look quite as slick as the HD2 though it does have some great features and I look forward to seeing some actual reviews. The Supersonic does also look very interesting :)

Seriously?
The iPhone looks so outdated now. it hasn't looked good or current for ages. The Bravo isn't the best looking phone out there but I still prefer it to the iPhone.
The HD2 is really nice aswell but then I don't really care what my phone looks like so long as it is fast at doing the things I use it for.

The trackballs are really useful for scrolling and such like, my better than having to touch the screen all the time.
