*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Guys,

I need your expertise and advice, I have finally decided I have had enough of the iPhone and have decided to get the HTC Desire but I have a few questions which I couldn't find on the internet...

Firstly how many exchange accounts can I have running at the same time? I ideally would like to have my work email as well as my personal exchange account running.

The other question is regarding version 2.2, I am picking the phone up from o2 and from what I can tell it hasn't been approved yet. Am I able to reflash the firmware with a standard 2.2 firmware? I am keen on keeping the HTC Sense as I do like some of the features it offers.

Cheers.

no idea about the exchange, as i just use gmail. as for 2.2 think it was released then pulled, so it will be out if not already very soon. I used a gold card method to remove my branding. other option is to get an unbranded phone from somewhere else

If you do get it definitely do the Goldcard technique, it took me 10 minutes (after downloading the files).

Was so simple!

OK one more question before I take the plunge and debrand/root/whatever.. I know there's an issue when flashing radios with Orange branded/locked handsets.. If I buy an unlock code do I need to do this BEFORE or AFTER I start messing around with the phone?

Depends what you do.
I de branded mine without one, but a b0rked update needed an unlock code to fix it.
I would do it before tbh, just to be safe. Its only £8 iirc.

So if I flash a rom/radio without unlocking the phone first, is it going to lock it out completely, i.e. it won't even register my Orange sim unless I buy an unlock code?

Such a minefield of info :p

HD version...

So what are Desire owners thoughts on the HD version? A must-have upgrade or something that can mostly be replicated on the standard Desire?

To an extent this of course depends on your contract stage and just how good the HD turns out to be, as well as how much you value the better camera and flash, but would be interested to hear early thoughts since the Desire should apparently be able to run Gingerbread when it appears.

Big question for me too. If the Desire can hold its own then I'll be getting it as I love the look of it compared to the Samsung Galaxy S. If however the Desire HD wipes the Desire clean then I'll have to look at the SGS or another phone as the Desire HD just doesn't do it for me.

With the new features being put into DeFrost every few updates I don't have the desire to go the HD route any time soon :p

just flogged a new desire on ebay for £300, claimed for my current one under my llyods insurance, had a chip in the corner. went on holiday for 3 days expecting my a letter saying send in my current one for repair, but there on my desk for a brand new one unlocked and unbranded, just a letter inside saying claim status 'repair not viable' replacement sent :D

called them and they said keep the old one :D

Result...did they bar the old one?

I'm trying to sort out my phone so that I can send and receive picture messages. Since I've had the phone it's not worked, instead I receive a link to a webpage with a code to retrieve the picture. I've logged into my account on the website and activated the service but it's still not working. I've set up the APN manually with the settings from the T-Mobile site but still no dice.

Any T-Mobile users got any advice? Tried calling CS but seem to just get pushed to prerecorded advice that doesn't work.

I'm planning on getting the HD come December, as that's when my mum is due an upgrade, she doesn't care about handsets, so I'll give her my Desire and I'll snag myself a HD, then my entire family will be HTC'd up to the max, me with my Desire HD and Wildfire for work, missus with her Wildfire and mum with my old Desire ;)

If you sign in to the T-Mobile site and go to your account details, are you able to add MMS Messaging to your account, which should be a free option? Also have you tried sending an MMS message to yourself?

For the settings, I just go to the APN page and press menu > reset to default, which loads up the Internet APN and MMS APN.

[edit] At the t-mobile account page, head to My Price Plan in the menu on the left and then go through all the sub categories such as 'Your Current Service', 'Account Options', etc and look for an option labelled 'Picture Messaging Service' which should be ticked, if not, tick it.
