*** The official HTC One S thread ***

I'm less fussed about the optimisation for a specific handset, and more frustrated at the length of time it takes for a new release to filter through to circulation. Particularly since HTC aren't supportive of rooting compared to (e.g.) Sony.

Completely agree especially when they could have provided the update like a month ago.

This really has put me of any future HTC handsets, great handsets but let down by the support/their ways of providing updates etc.

I doubt we will see the update this month at all, as I said way back, not expecting the update till January at the very earliest (especially since most of the UK one X devices still have yet to receive the update......). If the GS 2 and note II get the update before the S, then good bye HTC, for good.

+1 I can't believe that HTC can treat customers this way. There's no excuse in not delivering timely updates especially if other regions and similar phones have received theirs.

This is extremely poor and a major part of the reason why I would stay clear of HTC phones.

They may make superb phones but their lack of updates are diabolical. Does that mean you may not even consider the HTC Butterfly Nexus?

Depends stoosh:

- If there is no update for the S (including the one X for most UK devices) by the end of this month

or/and

- GS 2 and/or note I get the update first

Then that is me done with HTC until they actually prove themselves to be worthwhile in the updates area and not being stupid with the amount of similar models they release.

So yeah will probably not be getting the butterfly now, shame as I love sense and HTC's build and design, but if a company treats their customers like crap, then they aren't getting my money.

Will just wait it out for the galaxy S4 now and see what it is like as the nexus 4 doesn't really appeal to me as what I originally thought. Would move to the note II in a heartbeat but it is just too big :(

They also need to stop focusing on their "own" so much and concentrate more on the, USA, UK and Europe.

Such a shame that Samsung and HTC are the only decent android manufacturers across the board IMO (motorola are good now but they don't give a crap about the UK so I don't consider them)

What app is that sarge?

Been reading on the XDA thread for the JB sense ROM and it seems like HTC has improved the UI of the battery chart/info, however, removed one of the most useful stats, screen on time.......... nice one HTC

"quietly brilliant but also extremely stupid"

Yep, my One X is all up to date now and they've messed with the default battery stuff. It's not great.

Overall though 4.1 is a huge improvement, much smoother etc.

had a small scratch on the screen before

looks like they have replaced the screen as well

Got my One S back.

Raised the issue on Friday.
UPS collected on Monday evening
Arrivied at HTC Tuesday
Fixed Wednesday morning and sent VIA UPS
Arrived Thursday (today) around half 1.

I also had a small scratch on the screen but they didn't replace it :( might be because I didn't note the scratch on the sheet they got me to print out.

LOL

Do they not you know... think? :D

My friend was showing me Google Now on his S3 yesterday. I'd tried to forget about Jellybean but damn it looks good. It's just reminded me how pathetically long we've been waiting for. I love my One S and there's nothing I would change about it, but I'm already wondering exactly how muchy money I'd lose by selling it and getting a Nexus 4. Not that I would, but still..

It is so unbelievable that it is actually rather funny when you think about it..... in a sad way :p :(

Like seriously, how the heck are we suppose to gauge how good the battery life is now..... I always check the on screen time to see if I am getting my usual life, if not then I know that something is wrong i.e. draining quicker than it should.

Hopefully being android, there will be an app on the market that can show the screen on time.

At least someone has confirmed that the white balance and photo quality is much better now though.

but I'm already wondering exactly how muchy money I'd lose by selling it and getting a Nexus 4. Not that I would, but still..

Unfortunately the one S is worth hardly anything on the recycle sites now, won't get any higher than £100, galaxy s 2 sells for more :o

On ebay, >£200, depending on the condition and CPU chipset.

Heck even the one X isn't going for much on those recycle phone sites either, max I have seen so far is about £150 and average is around £100.

Another reason to go with Samsung next time.

Updates have always been an issue with HTC, Nexus

It's the one thing that Samsung have improved upon during the past year and even better that they are supporting phones throughout their portfolio all the way down to the Galaxy Ace.

Unfortunately the GS2 / Note may well get JB prior to the as there's near final builds of JB being showcased around in several forums.

The sad thing is that HTC have dragged their heels with updates which will have surely p'eed of even the most loyal customer and surely the lack of timely updates will be factored in the next time a HTC customer buys their next mobile phone.

Your reaction to not getting the HTC Butterfly is probably typical of thousands of HTC owners who feel exactly the same. The company seriously needs to up its game if it is to play in the same league as Samsung.

Even on the second hand market HTC phones seem to be going for far less than Samsung and Apple phones which seem to be holding their value.

IMHO Sony (Ericsson) seem to be the worst offenders when it comes to updating their phones followed by HTC. Both companies produce desirable handsets in terms of design and quality but fail when it comes to support.

I agree with you in regards to the Note II, I so badly want one but find that its also too big for me.

+1 in regards to Motorola as well after the Motorola Milestone debacle and their zero support of the UK market I vowed never to get a Motorola phone ever again. You never know now that Google have taken over the company that Moto might improve but I'm somewhat skeptical as the update table that Moto release to the public are always changing and release schedules are being put back.

HTC really need to up their game, they used to be innovators in the Android market but unfortunately now they're playing catch up.

They use to be the best in the desire range days. The sensation got ICS before the GS 2, iirc kona said by a month. They just keep going down hill now :( When they released the one series, I actually thought that would be their chance to get back to the top, but as usual they have just ****ed up in sooooo many areas, I just don't get how these companies don't see/get what the customers want, why is it so hard to understand  :o

Yeah Samsung have definitely improved, although they are still pretty poor for all their other phones apart from the flagship devices i.e. GS 3, note II, GS 2 and note I, the Gs 1 days were pretty poor and definitely put me of their future devices (especially after having used the galaxy spica, which was a very capable smartphone but let down by Samsung badly and like many of their other phones back then it was dead as soon as it was on the market, the spica was a very popular handset in Europe too so no reason why they couldn't have kept supporting it) But with the quick and very nice updates for the GS 3 and note II recently, they have definitely proved themselves in the update/support field and do seem to be the best now.

TBF though, apart from the GS 3 normal and LTE model, note II, HTC one X+, motorola razr devices and some of the one X devices, no other phones have the jellybean update officially afaik and it does look like HTC have put a lot of work into the new sense version, it is just the fact that they have been lying since October about the update and being able to release a phone, which is exactly the same apart from storage with JB and they don't bother with the update for the S, likewise for the X and X+, granted it was the same for the GS 3 LTE model and the normal GS 3, but it took 3-4 weeks for the update to happen where as it is much longer for the X+/X and SE/S now and I just know that the S will not see this update till January at the very earliest going by all the stuff that the HTC chat team are saying, the majority of UK X devices still haven't received the update (with the last update, iirc it was a 4-5 week gap between the X and S UK devices) etc.

Still very tempted by the nexus 4 purely for the support.

Has anyone tried GTA VC on the one S? That game
supports older phones like the xperia play and the S2, so my technically superior one s should handle it?

Also, what is the best COD rip off on android atm?

It is certainly capable, but I don't think rockstar have supported our phone, so we can't install it yet... there are certain ways to get it on the phone, but it wouldn't be legal :p Seems to work fine:

Only a matter of time till you can get it from the play store.

Games like COD:

On a slightly related note, I need to make space on my phone, so I unilstalled Backstab (a big 3D rpg), but it only freed up about 20mb. Do I need to manually delete the actual files whilst it is connected up to my PC?

Also, when I tried to transfer it to my internal storage, it didn't move over the ~500mb data, only the 20mb 'app'. It was one of those games where you download the app and it when you run it for the first time it asks you to download the game proper... So how can I either trasnfer it or delete it?

Yeah the game files that are downloaded when you start the game are downloaded onto the SD partition (10GB) so you have to manually delete them via a file explorer i.e. estrongs or via windows explorer on your PC

You joking? My old Arc got 4.0.4 OTA a month before the HOS :o

Sony Ericsson produced slow and undesirable phones (2010-2012) but supported the entire range completely. Updates were well documented, on time (only a few weeks out at most) and feature rich (other companies would use bits like this to sell 'new' models) Update speed was the only issue when comparing current flagships, which is the only part hype media looks at.
Unfortunately it looks like Sony have decided to ditch that approach :(

Motorola EU was the worst for me. 1 minor update then nothing. :D

Getting fed up with waiting for the X+ battery now, could be waiting another 1 month or even longer, thinking of just getting the 1800mAh battery........
