*** The official HTC One S thread ***

I don't think the white backgrounds look cheap, I actually think they look more "professional/smarter" than black backgrounds, I just prefer the deep blacks on SAMOLED :p  I am glad that it isn't just a pure white though, it has like a texture effect, which is rather nice itself.

Indeed! Even if the RAZR HD and MAXX came out now with 4.1.2 on it I still wouldn't touch it till they proved themselves to be worthy of considering.

No idea :p probably not be doing anything till the GS 4 is announced and then decide what to do. Again, the only thing that would stop me from jumping to the M7 is the screen, as awesome as it will be, I just prefer SAMOLED, which unfortunately might limit me to only the GS 4 :( unless HTC release another superb "mid range" phone with SAMOLED screen (would have to be at least 720P this time though and preferably bigger than 4.3"), however, this whole rooting and flashing thing for their phones has put me of.

Xperia Z/ZL looks great but due to their god awful support and updates and being even worse for rooting and flashing, I probably won't bother with them.

Still very tempted by the nexus 4 and am considering it purely due to the support. Just the screen and camera that is stopping me! :(

ok, so the missus is out for the night and i need something to do, so figure i'd root my phone...

what rom would people suggest? i'd like to use a sense rom as i want the camera to still be decent

is there a program i can use that makes it easier? if not is there a guide for every step to do this? (i've looked on xda, but i'm lost with all the jargon etc)

how easy is this to do on JB?

cheers!

Absolutely agree with you, we've been spoilt by the deep blacks of the SAMOLED screen!

I didn't realize that the white background had a textured effect to it, which makes it rather smart! I think that HTC were onto a winner when they released the HOS as it came from nowhere and everyone was focused on the HOX. It surprised a great deal of consumers despite it's mid range labeling it delivered on the specs front and didn't disappoint on the daily driver front.

As we're all aware HTC always mess up in some kind of way, the M7 will probably have a meager battery powering that 1080p screen. Im having buyers remorse in regards to the Xperia Z, I wish I didn't pull the trigger! Still I have 30 days to get a refund from Rainforest, so I have a safety net when it comes to giving it back. The S4 will be a very interesting proposition, let's hope that Samsung doesn't insist taking on the same design cues from the S3 i.e. use plastic materials and look similar to its predecessor.

I would seriously consider the N4, it's a superb phone and it has pleasantly surprised me. Yes the camera isn't that great and the screen is LCD where the blacks are grey, however if you can live with both "negatives" it's a great phone and much faster than the S3.

Now that the play store has an abundance of stock you might want to get one or wait for the white version.

Then again the MWC is just around the corner and will bring with it many new releases which we will lust after no doubt! :p

nice one nexus, thanks :)

hehe yeah i'll be sure to either come back crying with failure or joy depending how it goes. having a few beers to stop myself panicking about bricking it :D

Yeah it is a very faint effect, not too noticeable.

Indeed! It still holds it own against the "flagship" phones too, the only thing that is lacking is the screen res. Shame that people had many problems with the chipping and signal/home button issue though. The majority of them returned the S and got something else purely due to those 2 things :(

The M7 should have the same battery as the butterfly/DNA, although iirc there were rumours that the battery was going to be either removable (doubt it) or/and bigger. Either way the battery is actually very good on the butterfly, as good as the one S, XL and GS 3 if not better! Have a look at the last few posts in this thread:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18467201&page=5

and the DNA users are getting up to 6 hours on screen time spread across 1-2 days. SLCD 3 must be extremely power efficient!

That is all Samsung have to do as far as I am concerned, design and the software colour scheme/layout and of course the generic stuff like improving battery life, camera quality even more.

Wait for the white version?!?!?!?! God no!!! :p You should know me better than that stoosh! :p

Xperia Z/ZL looks great but due to their god awful support and updates and being even worse for rooting and flashing.

Official bootloader unlock and root >> http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/unlock-bootloader/

Official flash tool for latest Sony ROM (or Alpha/Beta) even if you've bricked the phone >> http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/

Easy as pie.

I was hoping Sony would turn into Apple for proper deep support but they're still one of the better Android OEMs around. Speed of updates and dropping support for the entire range are the only main issues.
It'll be interesting to see how fast we get updates with the Sense 5 phones out soon. Even the HOS replacement (SV) is running 4.0.4. :D

Ah didn't realise they were as easy as that, I thought you had to go through all sorts of hoops in order to unlock the bootloader from reading the Xperia S thread.

Although doesn't the actual developing community suck?

TBH, I am not expecting for us to get sense 5, I would like to think we would but just can't see it happening and if we do get it, you can be guaranteed that it will take forever :o :(

*goes to read the nexus 4 sub forum at XDA*

Have you placed your nexus 4 order yet Sarge?

EDIT:

Just remembered that the N4 doesn't support USB OTG and MHL either? :( Can live without the USB OTG but not MHL.

I got used to the screen resolution. The HOS was a superb phone whilst I still had it. The only thing that freaked me out was the chipping issue and I had to keep checking the phone for any new chips. It used to drive me crazy to the point of OCD and is the only reason I got rid of it.

The faint effect on a white background is classy to say the least.

Thanks for the link Nexus! That does actually bode very well for the M7 and most likely will be on my shopping list. I NEVER learn! LOL! :p

SLCD3 seems like excellent technology and with power management options in Sense 5 HTC are onto a winner. :)

I was talking to my Sister about new phones and by the time I finished she said "what you're going to get a new phone every month?" I didn't have an answer for that!

The extras that Samsung bake into Touchwiz are a bonus, going from the S3 to the N4 you realize just how much they add to Android. Shame they can't be bothered with the design side of things. The Xperia Z looks the business, if only Samsung can take their design cues from Sony.

I forgot that you have a natural repulsion to white phones Nexus! My bad! :p

I have no problems with the screen res. of the S, it might not be as sharp as the GS 3, one X etc. but the calibration of it is superb, but naturally for my next phone, I want to have a better res. :p

Thankfully mine is still in perfect condition apart from the USB port :p

Every month is upgrade time for you! :D Worse than Robbo & Jabbs! :p

Yup, google need to implement some more options/features into stock android, sense and touchwiz etc. are much better on the whole when it comes to the apps/features. They sort of did include quite a few features for the camera and gallery app in 4.2 though.

Not just phones, but any white tech. equipment! :p

nexus 4 has arrived

just finished setting it all up

i just love the screen on this thing the resolution and colour just look soo right

nice just got 50gb of box storage :D

any questions in comparison to the htc one s ask away

How do you find the viewing angles?

What about camera quality for indoor, outdoor in low and good light?

Sound quality?

Thanks :)

i will just comment on the screen at the moment

its amazing ,viewing angles are superb (not like the xperia t) the extra resolution is soooooo much better than the one s

i would say the screen is better than any of the other smartphones i have had

going to test the audio tonight and will get some sample pics up soon

You might be in luck. Reports coming out that the M7 isn't the only phone to be released by HTC. They will also release a M4 (mid range) akin to the HOS and G2 (low range).

The M4 will feature 4.3-inch 720p display (type unknown)
1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor (the specific processor is unknown)
16GB internal storage
2GB RAM
13MP rear-facing camera
1.6MP front-facing camera
1,700 mAh battery
Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
A lighter version of Sense 5.0

I got a problem with new phones I cant help getting new ones. I need help!

LOL!!!

Oh!

Looking good that. Would have liked a bigger screen this time but I can live with 4.3", and they do feel much for one handed use, hopefully this time the screen will be a bit shorter but wider. Please let it be samoled!!!

Also would have liked a much bigger battery although battery life could be very good depending on what the chipset and screen type is and of course software optimisation.

Hope we get some more info.on that soon.

How did the rooting and flashing process go twisted?

A bit worrying that you haven't posted yet :p or maybe you just had 1 too many last night? :p

Pfffffft! Thought that might happen :D :p

Emu how does the screen sensitivity feel compared to other phones? Quite a few reviewers have said that it seems to not be as "buttery/sensitive" to touch/scroll i.e.

@12:05

Do you find that noticeable/annoying?
