*** The official HTC One S thread ***

That's a shame, is the ariel/pins fully connected after you've put the sim in? (Xperia S if you want something similar)

Not checked the pins though a little more info on that? I take it they are visible behind the cover?

I looked at the Xperia S before the One S came out. It is a nice phone ..... then they added that silly bit of plastic on the bottom? What's that all about?

Could it be something to do with the type of radio in the One S and the antenna that he's connected to?

I've always thought something like this could be a factor in strange reception issues such as this.

It could be but I was elsewhere (still out in the sticks) where I know signal is good and was struggling for any signal. As I've said before I can walk 20 yards and get LOS on our local mast and I get full signal. I know buildings and trees can affect signal but it seems to cripple both the One S's I've had. Then last night I'm sat at home and pick phone up and it has full signal. Remains so for about a minute (whilst it is used) then just as quick drops to no bars though remains connected. I've never known a phone that has either good signal or nothing with no in-between. This is all backed up by the Network Signal Info ...

HTC are having it collected Monday so I'll be back on the Defy+ ... back to random reboots  I hope HTC sort my issue. I think it'll go something like this - Engineer will turn it on and probably get full reception at which point he'll declare there's nowt wrong with it and move onto the next phone. In which case it's off to Ebay

Apart from aforementioned Xperia X is there anything else? Anything similar in the pipeline?

There are 6 pins that should fully connect to the top antenna/plastic cover, make sure it's fitted correctly. Take it off and and signal strength should drop like a brick to almost zero. (You can't check the connections in the bottom, it's fully sealed) Lot's of people have issues with antenna designs like this.

Had a look. If I remove the cover it makes no difference to mobile network? Be it on or off. It does however make the wifi reception drop like a stone when it is turned on? Could the top one be just for wifi reception? Anyway, cleaned the contact surfaces, which is about as much as I can do and not made any difference to mobile connection. Thxs anyway.

Thanks for that johnny! :)

Will definitely be using that when I do root. Just buy a small 32GB USB or something and use it for all my films and TV shows, the 10GB currently is still more than enough for me, for photos/video recordings etc.

Limited storage will soon be a thing of the past for this phone

BTW I still haven't received that new update either :( And my phone is unbranded as well (well at least I am pretty sure that is, can't see any o2 branding at all)

No update here (Three UK). Expect they have to test it first?

As mentioned before mine is going back to HTC and been warned it'll be loaded with the latest software version before return.

Probably, but unbranded handsets should have received this update as well unless they are rolling them out one place at a time or something........

I am curious to see if this update will improve my reception even more and mobile data speeds as according to o2 coverage checker I should be getting excellent coverage but I wouldn't say it was excellent, it is good (ranges from about 2-4 bars, average is usually 3 bars) and mobile data speed is all right, good enough for web browsing and watching videos etc. but nothing outstanding.

Hopefully yours will get sorted Richy, any idea what you will get if it doesn't get resolved?

When I signed up in the Three shop the last thing the assistant said was after looking at their coverage checker was that you'll get better than excellent coverage where I am in relation to their mast .... famous last words

I knew Three were good before signing or I'd have never considered joining them. Tried their PAYG, but with a Motorola phone.

I'm hoping my One S comes back working as I would have expected. If not I really don't know. Xperia S may be a good phone but not keen myself ... can't get past the thing stuck on the bottom and some say battery life is rubbish. I did consider a Motorola razr Maxx when it comes out here - this month UK I'm led to believe? Thinking was the Defy+ never had issues with signal and call quality was always good. Rebooting was issue with Defy though  The big battery is a plus on that model but on the minus side is Motoblur, no ICS yet and Motorola support  That said I didn't find Motoblur too offensive on the Defy. New Samsung GS3 looks a little too large for my tastes. Galaxy Nexus? I'd like to have tested a One S here to see how it fares on mobile network. Fingers crossed HTC sort my phone?

Yeah personally Sony's android mobiles do nothing for me either, no idea why either :( as there support is great (better than Samsung and HTC), camera side is very good and the hardware is impressive along with great screens.

Only brands that I consider for android is HTC or Samsung :o

The only mobiles that are worth looking at IMO apart from the X and GS 3 is galaxy S 2 and galaxy nexus, they were the ones that I was considering when I was upgrading my mobile.

For the GS 2, you can buy the extended battery, which doesn't add much bulk or weight and the battery life is pretty damn good then, better than the S.

Just a shame that they are no where near the S overall though :( The GS 2 is better for hardware than the nexus but the nexus has stock ICS, better screen and feels better to hold.

Maybe Samsung will be bringing a galaxy phone out in the next few weeks to directly compete with the S?

Indeed, fingers crossed! :)

The notification LED is soooo annoying!

If the phone didn't have it, I would not be bothered at all, but it does and it is just **** and done extremely tacky and cheaply, which you would not expect of HTC! Can barely see it at an angle and the worst thing is that the blinks only last a minute or so..........hope HTC update it so that is pulses slowly instead and lasts until you actually unlock the screen, also is there any point for it to blink when you receive a sms or email when the screen is turned on........

Great!

Only thing, which isn't great is the 1080P video, still has the HTC trait of being slightly jerky and poor light metering and anything that is very bright e.g. white objects in bright light have a glow effect to them but can be solved by reducing the ISO or/and exposure manually.

Some 1080P videos and slow motion videos can be found on my channel here.
