*** The official HTC One S thread ***

I like making special guest appearances! :D

haha :D

I did see your review and it was a very commendable effort but it's hard to capture a screen's behaviour in bright sunlight!

Yeah, extremely difficult, took about 15 shots for that area alone trying to get one that matched what it was like in real life and was still no where near real life quality :(

Really need to get a better camera for taking pics as well, using a desire.

The camera on the HOS, the way it works, the interface, everything about it, I think HTC have nailed it

Indeed!

The One X seems to have sold reasonably well, but I don't think the One S has. I imagine both sets of figures would pale in comparison to the S3.

Most definitely, Samsung have ended up like Apple now though (IMO) regarding their whole company image, their marketing and even the way they presented the GS 3 (no where as good as apple's presentation though :p :o), sooooo many people just jump for their devices now purely because of the brand and hype, not knowing what it really is like especially with the GS 3 when it was just announced and we all thought "wow awful" yet people still pre-ordered straight away and then couldn't care less about the disappointment at that time. And I know it is stupid this next part, but it has sort of put me off their products now especially as they go on about Apple copying stuff etc. and "isheep" etc. yet they have turned into apple in some ways now, was extremely obvious as well as S-voice is exactly the same for everything and that was also their main area that they were showing off, they could have at least changed the UI of S-voice :p

Obviously people may not agree :p, but that is how I see things.

There is also a public perception that HTC are rubbish, I've met loads of people who think they're cheap, nasty and unreliable. Most of them do have iPhones and BlackBerry's, but not all. I inform them that they're wrong, but such an image isn't a positive thing!

Really?!?! You're not the only one who has said this!

They obviously have no clue then :p

HTC are the ones who pretty much made android so big with the nexus one and desire and hero. If it weren't for them, I honestly don't think android would be anywhere as popular or good as it is today.

It's annoying because at this rate, Samsung are going to run away with the high-end Android phone market.

Indeed! Although tbf, they have done a much better job this time than last year with the sensation so fingers crossed they realise their mistakes this year and don't repeat them next year :p

Given the customisation levels, and the fact there will probably be a stock Jellybean ROM at some point (or at least some good skins), the TouchWiz stuff isn't so bad.

It is an improvement, but that is the main thing, which I didn't want to do with my next phone, root and flash custom ROM, themes etc. as I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of flashing stuff and then having niggles etc. with battery life, GPS not working or some other common problem with flashing etc.

I could have put up with it though, but I wouldn't have been happy with it like I would have been with stock ICS or currently am with sense V4.

Let me put it this way, and you're free to disagree, if the One X/S and S3 were all on a table in front of you, and you could pick whichever you like, free of charge, it'd probably be the S3.

I honestly don't know if I would, it would be a very hard decision for me, if I did choose the GS 3 it would be purely for the screen and nothing else really, obviously the wee extras like SD slot, NFC, better NLED etc. would be nice to have, but for me and my uses, they wouldn't really make much of a difference, I love sense V4 (you can't get this on any other phone unlike Samsung's stuff etc.), love the build/perceived quality and looks of the S A LOT more than the GS 3 and the camera is a massive feature for me and the features etc. are just much better on the S IMO.

It would come down to the screen of the GS 3 VS sense V4 and the looks/design/materials of the One S.

However, if it was the One XL with an SD card slot and 2000mAh+ battery, I know which I'd go for... if it had a metal One S like case minus the ugly camera ring from the X too, then better still...!

Without a doubt! drool.jpg :D

:p

Although would prefer SAMOLED to IPS :p

True! As someone said, if there was a phone with a wood trim he'd be all over it. :D

bahahahahaha :D :D :D

Indeed, they have been trying to copy Apple for a while now, and it was made hugely obvious by the whole Galaxy S 3 marketing campaign and announcement event. The original Galaxy S was a straight copy of the iPhone 3G, and S voice is a not particularly great copy of Siri, it's just as functional but doesn't seem as nice to use.

This sort of adds a tacky feel to Samsung, as they're nowhere near as good as Apple at controlling a hype train and creating the almost 'religous-esque' feel around their company. They're just Samsung, which is fine, they're huge, they don't need to copy Apple, but they have anyway.

Apple are unique in this respect, the mysterious aura that they have can't be replicated by Samsung, it just isn't going to happen.

Yeah, it is unreal how alike the GS and 3G are :o Just thinking back to the looks/design of the GS, it really is awful :o Gladly take the white or PB GS 3 over it any day of the week :p

I actually thought the S-voice app was better in terms of quickness and the way things were done were a bit better, not a lot of difference though. But apple's way does seem more polished overall, as usual :p

It will be interesting to see what HTC come up with and if they add anything unique/cool to it rather than just straight copy as well and change in the colour scheme......

Completely agree with the rest there, they need to stop with this BS of trying to be like apple and stick to their own things etc. it is quickly putting me of their company and products even more now! Even some of the Samsung owners are ending up like the apple fanboys! :p

EDIT:

Although tbf, they are winning quite a few of the iphone owners over.

Unbelievable the amount of people who have got a GS 3 and sold their 4s/4 (more so on this forum here )

Yeah, they are winning over iPhone users but mainly because the 4S was a fairly weak upgrade, largely because the iPhone 4 was so good. Even now it holds up fairly well, the camera is decent, it's not particularly slow, the screen is great despite being small, etc.

We'll see how well Samsung manage to hold these 'converts' if, and only if, the iPhone 5 is a more radical change. Larger screen, perhaps some really impressive internals much like the One S ended up with, a new design, and so forth.

I'd actually quite like to make a poll in GD to see how many people have an iPhone, an Android phone, or other. From being around the forum it seems like the majority of people have an iPhone, which tends to be the default position for people who like a nice phone, but aren't worried about the more advanced features of it (like the people in this particular part of the forum are).

Do, but get ready for it to turn into an android/apple bashing thread :D

Yeah, it definitely would be a bit explosive! :p

Nexus would be in there posting a video of himself burning a copy of Steve Jobs' biography! :D ;)

I should add, as a last point, people tend to forget just how many iPhones Apple sell, in most quarters they sell between 30-35 million of them, I think that includes the 8GB iPhone 4 as well as the 4S, but I'd bet the majority are the 4S. Those kinds of figures are huge!

I am sure that they won't disappoint with the hardware and camera quality. Imagine that it will be very similar to the GS 3 hardware.

But the design of the mobile doesn't look much different going by those leaks of the body shell :(

Really hoping Apple do something completely different rather than just a rectangle slab again though.

Can't wait to see the screen as well

^^

This! :D

I imagine that the majority would have an iphone as well due to what you said there.

Yeah, it definitely would be a bit explosive! :p

Every thread that discusses just android or apple etc. in GD ends up being locked after like 20 pages or something as it just becomes a flame war, lol :D

:D

You know me to well! :p :D

I try so hard not to post/reply in those sort of threads now, otherwise I am up all night typing massive walls of text :o :p

Indeed! Ridiculous the amount that are sold, the iphone 5 will no doubt break their current record as well and easily surpass the GS 3 sales

I'm also a bit unsure about the iPhone 5 leaks, though there's nothing to suggest they're the real thing as of yet. The two tone colour thing doesn't sit quite right with me, but then it may look better in the flesh.

Likewise! Probably be the same as the GS 3 regarding the PB, looks poor in the majority of photos etc. but a bit better in real life.

I have the 1.5ghz so think its the s4 :'( awww wnanted the faster 1 ha didnt even know there was a difference! still liking the phone although I was getting **** signal today throughout town etc

As Robbo said, you are safe!!! :D

If you enable GSM only mode instead of WCDMA only mode and WCDMA/GSM only mode, the voice reception improves somewhat, but means a slower data connection as well. So only enable WCDMA when you need a fast connection

This case looks rather nice! Going by the pics, it looks like it doesn't add much bulk at all.

If I don't get the nillkin case by Tuesday (will be 4 weeks exactly since I give them my address etc.), I will see if I can get the above case from MF to review ¬_¬ :p and if not may order the HTC One S Rubberised Back Cover Case from the rainforest site for £4, or the rock case.
