***The Official HTC One Thread***

Here's something weird...Just tried taking some pictures in a pitch black room and some of the shots are coming out blurry when the flash is fired and some are fine.

I'd say its rather hit and miss 7/10 shots taken come out blurry and the rest don't. There's a random element to it as I take all the shots in the same way ie touch to focus wait when the green box appears then take the photo.

Its really strange. What's up with the blurred pictures?!!!

Just took delivery of mine today, loving the built quality although this is my first Android phone as I just came off Windows Phone so getting the hang of it but doesn't seem to hard at the moment!

At least you pleased your Dad.

The store rep knows their stuff!

Are you using the wallpaper on your S4? I bet it looks great on the AMOLED HD screen :D

He is pleased - well as much as a phone can please him lol, which for my dad is not not much :D

They do indeed.

Yes got Nexus18 (cheers bud) to modify the wallpaper for me by adding a 25% tinted notification bar up top as Nova launcher now makes it fully transparent, which I don't like.

Old nova, new Nova, Nexus18 modded wallpaper:

Looking good ;)

That is a bit odd stoosh. Does it happen without the flash too? What about without touching to focus first? i.e. just point the camera and take the shot. Also, is this with a very steady hand?

I find that the touch to focus can do that sometimes on my S (more so with macro conditions), it will focus just fine but as soon as it does, the image goes blurry.

@kona That's a right result! An easily pleased Dad makes for an easier life! :p

Isn't Nexus a dab hand when it comes to creating nice wallpapers? Isnt it handy that he's a whizz when it comes to wallpapers? ;)

@Nexus

I kind of came across the bug by accident. Without the flash in a pitch black room you just get a black shot. Without touching to focus you still get blurry shots but sometimes you don't. Its hit and miss and that's with a steady hand :eek:.

What I've noticed is that there's approx a 2-3 second delay from the time the camera focusses and the flash fires hence why you might get a blurry pic.

I get the same results using another camera app - in this case Camera Zoom FX.

I found this thread over on XDA and it seems that it has affected some other users as well :(

I've tweeted HTC UK am waiting on their reply.

:p

I thought, even in a pitch black room, that the camera lit the environment/room up (without flash)?! Could have sworn that their was a pic demonstrating that :confused:

Try HDR in dark conditions, however, you need a steady hand for this now, it gives me pretty good results i.e. this is pretty much pitch black (at least in the viewfinder it is) and using HDR, it lightens it up nicely enough:

Just quickly tried my S out in a dark room with flash via touch to focus/capture and point to shoot and the shots came out fine, hopefully it is just a software problem on the one.

The notification light is so c#@p on this compared to my Note 2, hard to see it's even flashing sometimes!

1 - Any one set up an email account on the 'Mail' app and find emails don't come through right away? Anyway to fix this?

2 - When you receive a text message, is it possible to set it so the screen comes on?

3 - Can you set it so whenever you take a pic, it auto-uploads to dropbox?

Despite these small niggles, and I'm sure I will find many more as I continue using this phone, I absolutely love it! Everyone who has seen it now has been in absolute awe of it, my cousins thinking about cancelling his s4 order and getting this instead now. I took it off charge at around 7am this morning and it's now on 20% ready to be stuck on charge again. As long as the battery lasts me all day, I have no issues with it. Did I mention the sound quality? :eek: :cool:

LOL! Nice comedy picture there Nexus! :)

See that's what I thought but the camera fails to pick up any detail in a dark room so I fired the flash and got nothing but blurred pictures :confused:

See example below: flash fired in pitch dark room

Tried four to five times later did nothing different and got this:

I tried HDR mode and still got the same results - nothing but blur.:(

Thanks for trying out the camera on your HOS...Impressive result there! :)

I concur with you its definitely a software fault and I hope that it gets fixed soon otherwise the camera is rather at the mercy of the blurryness. I'd rather take shots that I know will come out first time pretty good and not have to worry about it. :(

@e36Adz

Not sure about the first two things but for the 3rd thing, there should be an option under the camera settings or/and accounts and syncing under the dropbox menu.

@stoosh

Strange....

What about burst shots? (just hold the shutter/camera button down) Still the same? EDIT: Just remembered the flash doesn't stay on when doing that :o :(

Thanks, the photo isn't the best but when you consider that there was no light at all, it is pretty good imo, unfortunately you need a very steady hand though! Otherwise it comes out as a blurry mess i.e. for the below shot, had to take it 3 times! That was taken around midnight but the sky was nicely lit up by the full moon, normal shot was just pitch black with a white dot...

One big advantage of the htc one, the process/shutter time for HDR etc. is very fast.

My phone has killed itself, it turned off yesterday and won't turn back on. It's only 1 week old as well :(

Hold down the power button for 30 seconds, its the equivalent of taking the battery out. Both the capacitive buttons at the bottom should flash. Try it a few times.

If that doesn't work then its broken.

2 - When you receive a text message, is it possible to set it so the screen comes on?

The notification is absolutely rubbish, as I suspected. Its not that noticeable and green is the only colour. I can't even control the speed of the blinking, would like solid on for missed calls/texts and flashing for emails.

2 - Light flow can turn you screen on when you get a notification. I quickly tested it and it works. But I think once the screen comes on the LED notification stops.

Sony Smartwatch is pretty nice for notifications etc.
Mine shows me text messages, incoming calls, tweets, FB updates and so on - really handy in the office, and all manner of other natty functions too :)

What's the score with the HTC One? How does it compare to the Galaxy S3? I received a silver one this morning as a free upgrade with Vodafone. Not sure whether to stick with my S3 and sell the One...decisions decisions!

Hold both side by side and then sell the S3 :D

Picked up a HTC One in black the other week, really impressed by the phone but I hate HTC Sense! Smileys that you can't turn off in SMS messaging, HTC Blinkfeed that I can't completely remove, and Facebook photos appearing in the gallery are just some things I hate...

Play with both phones and see which one your prefer. It shouldn't be a hard decision. You are asking people on the HTC One thread so expect some biased opinions.

I recently got a HTC One after using iPhones for years and don't regret switching. The S3 or S4 did not interest me at all. A lot of the features are gimmicky.
