***The Official HTC One Thread***

What could they possibly need to test? Surely the whole point of having all this technology standardised is so it just works.

What a dumb thing to say.... what is standardised? I get the issue that they're not very quick with this but for example what if this update meant the phone struggled to connect to 4G? Cue thousands of angry customers pointing the finger at EE not HTC because it looks like a network issue.

Or any one of a million more options that might ultimately mean you pointed the finger at HTC but still wound up leaving EE to get away from the phone.

Err 4G itself? You know like 3G and 2G before it? If none of it was standardised then you have the possibility that your phone only works on certain networks.

Perhaps I am being naive about it and oversimplifying the situation, however I don't consider it dumb to expect that if your phone adheres to the standards then it should function perfectly fine on the network.

out of interest - then how do sim free handsets work on EE for example then? They are running stock firmware not touched by the carrier.

If only things were that simple. A mobile network has an extra duty of care to it's customers and it's partners. There could be all manner of reasons they have delayed the update - 4G issues, EE's apps not working, other preloaded apps with partner contracts not working.

Now that is a fair point :)

its not naive it's just over simplified partly because of how the networks managed to take this insanely complicated technology and make it appear completely simple.

For example I'm pretty sure they all have slightly different blocks within the frequencies so even to say thats standard is incorrect. But anyway, its more likely down to their own apps or network services they need to test.

They work but they don't do everything exactly how the carrier wants. Services like balance checking, visual voicemail, mms etc etc (not saying these are EE services I'm just generalising over the potential services) might not work properly together with things like call waiting or cell handoff, data switching between 4g, 3g, 2g etc etc.

Its absolutely debatable as to who would care, not I for one and I can't remember the last time I had a carrier branded phone but it's this sort of thing they get completely obsessed with and leads to things like bootloader locking so you're stuck with the networks "experience" being something they can control, even if that is demonstrably worse than it not existing.

I don't agree with it, I'm just explaining it.

Got 4.2.2 on my O2 HTC One last night. I thought it was meant to get rid of the black bar though? Facebook still has it. Or do they need to update their app to remove it?

Go to phone settings, "Display, gestures & buttons", then under "Home button" pick "Swipe up for Google Now, press and hold for menu".

Yep mine was like a furnace last night but seems to have settled back to normal today.

Same here now. Gone back to normal. Maybe the heat was just the upgrade set up.

Only problem I have now is Google Keyboard can't be activated.Looks like a known 4.2.2 issue. HTC Swype is ok instead. I'm getting used to it now.

Sorry for the silly question but there is a new icon in the status bar at the top of my home screen, which I don't recognise.

It comprises a diagonal line with what appears to be a small flag above it and a solid white circle below it.

I would be interested to know what it represents though, which is probably something which which should be obvious, but isn't to me I'm afraid!

Thanks! :)
