***The Official HTC One Thread***

Red looks a bit girly. Black looks amazing. But no matter which one you get, you will have the best phone in the world.

RE: my warranty repair

My phone was fixed under warranty with its purple mark and something like 11 dead pixels. Just got it back and they've replaced the screen and also somehow repaired slightly scuffed parts of the case. I think they must have replaced the entire outside of the case because i had minor scuffs (one of the more pronounced ones was on the top edge where i dropped it the first week i had it) and scratches on it, that are no longer there.

All in all, not a bad service from HTC at all. I was half expecting them to say that it was accidental damage and they wouldn't repair it. :)

Very glad to have the One back though. Been using an HTC Desire for the last week or so. It really brings home and reminds you how much stuff has moved on in just 3 years, when the HTC Desire was the best Android handset out.

That's good to hear... are you sure they have not sent you a completely new phone?

P.S. My vote is for silver! ;)

Yeah, was quite relieved. Yeah, pretty sure as the IMEI is the same and also the serial number.

Also on the reciept/invoice they sent with the phone there was a box saying "New IMEI:" which was blank, which i presume they fill in if they issue a new handset.

Maybe fixing scuffs and replacing the case is all part of the service?!

Contacted HTC cs today and they are sending me out a replacement as I have gaps and the screen isn't flush with the top and bottom speakers, hoping to have it in a day or so, was asked if I wanted black but I said I would stick with silver, black looks very nice but I'm happy to stay with what I know :)

Definitely looks as if is your original handset... up to a point anyway!

However, if the purple 'splodge' and the dead pixels are no longer there, and the scuffs aren't visible any more either, then that surely has to be a good outcome!

Now you can get back to enjoying the phone again! :)

Well had mine for a few days now. I did want silver but I got it black. Cant really complain as its a works phone that I use for personal as well.

Really nice looking phone with a fantastic screen. Been quite a change after 7 years of iPhone ownership.

Data wasnt working for a couple of days. In the end had to do the inital setup again but this time not connecting to wireless network. Forcing it to get data off the cell network.

So far my feelings are;

  • Texting was pretty much unusable. the predictive text was picking some crazy words. Put Swiftkey on and its transformed it. Nearly as good as the iPhone now on this front.
  • Was acting up a bit, refusing to unlock with a slide etc. Noticed it wasn't on the latest software release. Update it. Problems disappeared.
  • Camera. Still playing with some of the Zoe features, its seems an OK camera but a little pixelated up close. Again I think the iPhone just pips it here. Havent tried it in low light yet which is supposed to be its strongpoint.
  • SatNav. The bigger screen is a massive bonus here, still toying with google and Sygic. Might have to end up getting tomtom as for me its the best ive used.
  • Music. Strange one this, I really liked the interface I had when I first got the phone, the nice coverflow design. Then it updated and it went to a flat view. Shame, preferred the coverflow. Sound quality when using headphones is pretty good. Better when you turn off the beatsaudio stuff. The sound isnt as detailed or open as the iPhone though.

Typing this up it seems like im not happy with it and that the iPhone does everything better. That isn't the case though, I do think its a fantastic phone and day to day use its just great. The screen is amazing and its very quick to switch between apps.

I personally think the sound quality is a hell of a lot better on the One compared to my 4s. I guess sound is subjective though and it can depend on the genre of music you're listening to.

I felt exactly the same as you when I moved over to android and the HTC One. Kept finding these little gripes that I didn't have with my iPhone. Now I can't think of one single thing my HTC one doesn't do better when compared to my 4s. Give it time. :)

I also found fun in flashing ROMS/kernels but that isn't for everyone.

They probably have to damage the case to get to the internals themselves so have to swop it as standard.

I think the HO in black looks like BEAST mode but would worry about scratches.

I never run cases on my phones as it ruins all the hard aesthetic work the designers did! So the phone is NEVER in pockets with keys or coins.

It looks like really high quality anodising, do people think black is durable enough with care?

I know some people say they have scratches and silver would hide this better, but I don't know how they treat their phones...

Personally I wouldn't get black even though I have one, I have the official HTC hard flip case and bits of sand or grit have got in the case against the phone and have marked it, the screen is virtually unmarked but the rest of the phone isn't which I'm gutted about, I think it would have been better out of the case

I decided to get it in silver, im not sure why but i prefered having the front facing speakers in silver compared to black as black on black (the screen) didn't stand out as much, the most random reason i know...

Colour choice is very much a personal preference, I think, and although some may decide that silver looks more 'natural', other users are always going to prefer black, or even red!

It is always a good idea to see one 'in the flesh' as it were before making a final decision, but at the end of the day, you pays your money and you makes your choice... or should that perhaps be the other way round! :)

I went for the silver option myself, and am delighted with my phone.... and am now looking forward to a OTA update of Android 4.3 from Vodafone! ;)

The official HTC cases actually do scratch the phone. They've been taken off the market because of it.

I don't have any scratches on my black HTC one cuased by a Nilkin case or anything else (I have occidentally put the phone in my pocket with keys without a case before) but to be honest I guess that's more luck than anything.

I can't wait to watch a video on the beautiful screen :)

Going to do a lot of playing around with it when it arrives, never used adroid before only iOS.

For you guys who use SwiftKey keyboard, is it more precise than the standard one? The buttons seem to be further spaced apart more like the iPhone, which is easier to use.

Worth a buy? Cheers guys!

Are you swiping? If so I find swype better. It just seems more accurate.

If you're not swiping it's really much of a muchness. I'd recommend learning to swipe if you're not already. :)
