**** The Official Huawei Mate 20/Mate 20 Pro Thread ****

Anyone know of any mouse and keyboard that works with Android without needing an dongle.
I'd like to use desktop mode on occasions, saves me firing up the pc.

1) Although headphones paired, Jabra app couldn't see them, so no HRM. I probably just need to follow the correct steps, but I'm sure with others I've got away with just pairing and opening the app (not using the app to pair I mean)
2) After each set I log it, so pull it from my pocket, unlock, press 'Next' and back in my pocket. The FPS is harder to find, infact do we need to wait for the screen to light up to unlock? I actually just let fact detection take over, which is almost instant once the screen has lit up, so not a real problem, just slightly slower. The FPS in the screen is cool and all and great when device is on a table, but was actually a pain today.
3) Even though I set my two tracking apps to not be shut down for battery management, it seemed to close them quite often still. After I've hit 'Next' a timer starts and beeps 40 seconds later for me to start the new set. This pretty much never beeped before I turned off management and still I think missed a few after I set it to not be shut down.

So 1! turned out to be the RAM management too, the background service being closed down. I thought I'd found the bit that stopped this, but actually Jabra support pointed me to Settings -> Battery -> App Launcher as to the place to fix it.

This should fix 3) too, leaving just the FPS issue for me. Not a major thing.

**EDIT** Oh, and what can we do about no notifications on the lock screen? That could be a deal breaker tbh.

Sorry, my (noob) mistake. I meant always on display.

**EDIT** I've been looking, I don't think there's a solution.

Also, Ava Lockscreen works great. Face ID and FPS still work.

Went into the EE shop today (Harrogate) - stated they wont get any cases in for the Mate 20 Pro.... 'For 6 months..*laughs* - its just came out....'
Great service.

Carphone warehouse next door - 'Nope sorry mate its too new.'

Ordered
Official Huawei Mate 20 Pro Black Smart View Flip Case

from the internet - and then they wonder why shops are closing.

has anyone actually fixed the notifications issue? i cant even get whatsapp icon to show up on mine!
What issues are you having?

My notifications are being "weird". For example, Amazon app, I didn't get any notifications about my deliveries, despite notifications being on in app and in settings, then when I opened the app, the notifications appeared.

ok so initial thoughts after a couple of days.... (coming from Pixel 1 XL)

Screen is really nice and bright outside - easily better than the Pixel - but then again would expect 2 years on?
Battery life - seems to have stamina - although Ive got this strange feeling of anxiety when it drops... Im kinda expecting it to be forever with the 4000mah battery ... so when Ive got to 11hrs 39mins - with some camera/video use today at an indoor fair ...its now 21.38 and it states 40% left - estimated 13hr 38 left - you kinda think you 'only' have 40 % left.
Problem is for me the battery left will still need a charge overnight ... or a charge in the car to work - 30 to 40 minutes .... so Id like to think whatever I do in the day it will last a full day no bother - unlike the Pixel... and the new Pixel 3?
And if I do need to boost you have the super fast charger.

Watching youtube is a joy - very nice screen - easy to hold - but still need a case... so bit wary - but great size to hold - so doesnt feel like im going to drop it.

Usb port - the included dongle and headphones .... to me the fit doesnt seem great - seems like forcing in to the port.... maybe its just me.

When plugging in my Hyper X headphones into the dongle then the phone the sound continued to come from the phone.... unplugged and plugged in....same... started Youtube again.. eventually sound came out of headphones... not sure if this was a bug or its the weird feeling I get when I plugged into the port... will monitor.

Camera - hmmmm so with the AI assist on ... I took some great photos of my boy playing football - then some test shots in the house.... but then when I look back at them they all look a little bit 'unreal' - as if the whole background is perfectly blurred out and they have been superimposed into the photo.... maybe its just the clarity I'm not use to.....

Tried some video today.... ok now coming from the Pixel - point and shoot .... or use video mode.... or slow-mo.... much simpler to quickly select.... trying to find slow-mo on the mate 20 ... go into an option and then it defaults to a slow-mo where it defines the object in the box... now later I guess this is for maybe pointing at a balloon popping or something? So missed a few shots when I realised you could select the x slow mo speed.... so more practice needed.
Tried again with this other slowmo option... this time x8 and the video was blurry... not sure what I did wrong .... maybe needed to focus first? again missed the shot.

Did take some pics with the wider angle camera and was impressed - will come in very handy for that diffrent photo.....

Tried a quick selfie of me and the wife and it made my face almost look plastic - again the default settings seem a little maxed... found the beauty button - turned it off and was better.

Moral of the story if you want quickness/ease of use off the bat - probably a pixel 3 would be the camera of choice..... this may just take really cool pics once you're used to the settings and turned off the AI features ?

Finger print reader - enabled a few fingers and it seems fast - no issues there.
Face recognition - again really fast - impressed with it.

EMUI - lots of options but didnt seem as bad as people made out - like the app locking features - dont feel the need to go back to Nova launcher.... yet ... we will see..

Hope initial thoughts have helped a little about any sitting on the fence.... Will still probably say this is the best phone Ive owned based on only a couple of days use.... great screen....fast phone... lots of storage.... great camera ... just need time to get used to the settings.... great battery life...... fast charging ..... great size to hold.... EMUI am quite liking..... and the bonus of a wireless charger and a GT watch to come...

Excellent phone.
Thanks for reading.

Used to prefer iPhone cameras but really don't like the unrealistic HDR that leaves a fairly low contrast image. Video on iPhone does look better though.

I see none of the YouTube reviewers mentioned the screen dimming when opening certain apps. Rather annoying.

This has been fixed in firmware .122

the reviewer handsets all have .122 update, hence why they have Performance Mode Toggle, .108 doesn't.

just an FYI to all, Wifi Calling works differently than on Samsung's, it only comes on when there is no Signal, i think its a Huawei thing

My Note 9 used to be on all the time at home and work (within wifi coverage), doesn't come on when at work now as i have full signal but comes on at home as i have poor signal. - unless an update changes this!
