**** The Official Huawei P20 Thread ****

What cases /screen protectors do people recommend for p20 pro?

For some reason the spigen case has dissappeared off amazon, any other recommendations??

O2 have confirmed my order and should receive at the end of the week (then I can pay off phone/cancel airtime :p for £550)

I'm so close to ordering this. Been playing on my mind all weekend! I'm tied in with Vodafone though. Need to make a decision soon to guarantee the pre-order and headphones.

Looks like the p20 camera isn’t as next gen as dxo made out in day and video images

..apart from low light pics, the p20 does very good.

With this in mind I personally don’t think the p20 is worth it’s retail price.

That follows other reviews I've seen. It's a bit odd that DxOMark didn't pick up on the complete lack of 4k video stabilization. Aside from that, it seems pretty great to me. Keeps up with the iPhone X in most things, betters it in a few things. Hopefully Huawei tweak the software over the coming months, as it seems most of the negatives are software based.

I'd be happy enough with it. Daytime pictures are decent, as they have been on flagship smartphones for a few years now. The addition of 5x zoom makes the camera a lot more practical. And the low-light performance is game-changing.

The biggest question is whether to jump on this for the free headphones, or wait for the Nokia 9, which is rumoured to have a similar 41MP triple camera set-up. Android One being the main upside of the latter option.

I've seen a lot of negative press with the lack of OIS while recording in 4K, but how many people actually record in 4K?

Out of all the videos I've ever shot, I think I've only ever watched one back on my 4k TV.

It just seems like a waste of storage space personally

Just goes to show that DxO are jokers and have always been shoddy.

Don't know why everyone gives takes their reviews as gospel. Real life user experience is the best way to guage camera performance.

Wait for the XZ2 Premium or Nokia 9 (if the spec rumours turn out to be true although I fear that the leak is an April Fools joke)

The bonus is that they'll have 2018 SoC and not last year's chip which runs on the P20 series.

Totally agree mate

Here’s another, p20 vs s9+

just ordered 2 of these .. with the sale of both s7's and the bose headphones should recoup at least half of the outlay .. oh just 4gig data on each with another 5 shared £38 a month no upfront fee

I follow a few people on Twitter who have used the P20 Plus and their initial impressions are very positive regarding the camera.

When do reviews expect to drop?

Anyone know if this will support WiFi calling with bt? (or if the mate 10 does?)

It says it does on the Ee website so here's hoping.

Interesting take.

Seems like there's a really good camera in there. It's just trying to be too clever. While that isn't something that will please reviewers, I reckon Huawei may be right to do it this way. Most people just want to point and shoot and have something that'll look good once uploaded to Instagram. To that end, better low light performance and more zoom matter much more than whether or not an image looks over sharpened up close.

IPhone X is near what £800-900?, P20 Pro can be had for £600 if you're savvy and no doubt the retail price will drop to that in a few months. If the camera is up there with the best of them then I wouldn't say it's not worth it, every phone has compromises, and if you're after the perfect phone you'll have a long long wait in my opinion.

Also a top of the range camera doesn't make you David Bailey, if you know how to use manual mode which a lot of recent devices have these days you'll get good results.

Plus you get a pair of Bose headphones if you get in there early. :)

Been watching a few comparisons of the P20 against the Pro. The conclusions aren't really what I was expecting. Generally, both screens look good, the extra RAM in the Pro doesn't appear to make a huge difference, and the difference between the cameras isn't as significant as you may think. But there is a huge difference in battery life. The Pro is really good on that front. The P20 is really ****.

Another main thing people care about is the AMOLED screen

Managed to get it in total for £504.99, bargain. Spoke to them on live chat about missing the initial code for £30 off, guy kindly gave me £75 off instead! This is on o2 refresh by the way, so will cancel and pay off once received.

Oooooo :D

Your Carphone Warehouse order is currently being processed and we'll be in touch once it is on its way to your chosen store. We aim to have your product shipped out as soon as possible.

I had to pay £50 up front. Contract is 43quid a month for unlimited calls and texts plus 4gb data. Will see about the promo for the wireless headphone in a few weeks time as well.

Ouch. You could have swapped to 02 for just £100 up front and £34 a month for 10Gb data plus unlimited calls and texts plus £40 cashback.
