*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

Just got my iPad in the mail! I preordered it on the 16th, and had it sent to my parents in the states and had them send across the pond to me here! Only took 3 days to get to my military Post Office Box! 32gb/Black Wifi and I paid for it in US Dollars! Cannot wait to get home to get crackin'!

Just in case anyone's in the market for a 16GB Black wi-fi (only) John Lewis have 10+ back in stock as I type. Hopefully they're not returns because of missing pixels and dodgy colours, or because you can light fires with them. :-)

Ah good old Consumer Reports and their obsession with Apple. They clearly need to look at how hot a Macbook Air gets instead of wasting time on a warm iPad. With twice the battery in the iPad 3, it's amazing the amount of folk who are expecting the device to be cool to the touch.

I know. Playing Infinity Blade 2 for 45mins while plugged in the mains (if that's the same report) is not normal use. The whole point of having an iPad is you can sit on the sofa/in bed and leave it on charge over-night or what not.

Mine hasn't even felt warm yet, although I haven't cained it with any games.

SOoooo I just switched to 3 mobile for my Ipad 3........I was on o2 before.............

Speedtest Orange iphone 4: 1015 kbps down, 306 kbps up

Ipad3 3 network: 11.26 MBPS down 1.7 MBPS up

Sky home broad band '16mb' connection, Ipad 3 on wifi -- 4.44mbps down

Surely, thats not possible !

Just shows how clear a winner 3 is for 3G. Been using their sims on my iPad1 for ages, and the iPad maintained a strong 5 bar signal wherever I travelled. By comparison my iPhone 4 with o2 spends most of it's time on 1-2 bars.

The iPad 3 with the 3 sim just has obscene 3G speeds. My highest was 17mbps downstream and 2mbs up. Forgot to take a screen though :/

I would assume Air Video would work, as I can map my Drobo easily enough.

aaargh - I just bought it on your recommendation but keep getting the following error:

WARNING:
Your Air Video server version seems to be outdated. Recommended Server version is 2.4.0 :(

I've phoned Apple Care and they have generated an RMA and replacement. The replacement will ship in a few weeks which is roughly when I'd next be able to get to a retail store anyway. It would've been easier to go to a store but since there is a grace period, I would've been out of time if I waited to do it in person....best to get it reported ASAP.

In the meantime I can continue to use my delivered unit which will be picked up only once my new replacement iPad has been delivered.

Just an update on my situation I was originally told by Apple Customer Services I would need to wait a few weeks for a replacement due to online demand, but I received an email yesterday saying I should have my replacement by Friday. :)

just download the latest version from the net and install on your computer

fixed, its no biggie :D

I tested all the new ipads on show in my local store and none of them showed a yellow tint at all. In fact they were all a much brighter white at the same setting that my ipad 1 or atleast on a par with the ipad 2's there. :)

Hey, would just like to make a suggestion to people who have been using this method.

I found that the audio level wasn't very good, even when playing with the configuration of encoding. However I did encode, but rather than putting the 1080p video into AVplayerHD, I tried just syncing it to my Ipad, and it worked, beautiful video, beautiful sound. So just a heads up for anybody else who would possibly notice this and require a solution :)

The low volume was the only thing I found that I wasn't 100% happy with. Still, I'm glad it worked for you (and hopefully everyone else)!

When you say you just synced it with the iPad, do you mean you stored your video files in the 'Films' section of iTunes and then it copied over? If you do it this way, does it still show up in AVPlayerHD?

Thats not how it works mate, my PC isn't supposed to be in the equation.

The QNAP is a networked NAS box which has DLNA and windows/samba support - I just looked on QNAP website and it looks like only the high end models have a Air Video software installer - waste of £2 :( ah well

Any other recommendations guys? Need something to stream directly from my NAS box pls
