*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

Whilst apps are getting larger, it's nowhere near as bad as some are making out.

Ignoring a few huge ones, we're still talking a few hundreds of MB for even the bigger apps so it's not like you're going to install ten of them and run out of space on the 16GB model.

If you're not planning on loading it up with media then you'll probably be more than fine with 16GB. Of course, the counter-argument is that it's only another £80 for the 32GB, so if you're spending £400 already, what's another £80 to double the space? 20% more cost for 100% more space.

Hmmm....it is only £80 for the 32Gb model, but mentally that makes it nearly £500 rather than £399 (I know it's odd but that's how my mind works!)

Still - I suppose it would mean that I could sell it for more when we (inevitably) upgrade to the iPad 5 ;)

Thanks for the replies (glad to know I had got it right on the streaming front!) - I shall go and think it over :)

Cheers

TC

In a nutshell, I do think you'd be ok with 16GB, given your proposed usage, but personally I'd spring the extra £80 for the 32GB. It would be worth more and be far easier to sell when the time comes, yes.

I agree with this, 16GB is plenty if you plan on Steaming media like music and videos. You'd need 100s of Apps to fill 16GB, even with the larger file sizes for the graphics.

The other option is of course an refurbished iPad 2 for £289 and put the rest of the money towards something else like an iMac.

So I go into the Apple store in Westfield, just to have a look. Naturally I walk out with the new iPad and a lot of £££ poorer. I can't quite see the visual difference between the two, but I have convinced myself at least that it was worth going for over the iPad 2. Love it so far.

Very impressed with the battery life so far. Did a full charge Saturday morning around 10am. Had a light play on Saturday. Heavy usage on Sunday and heavy usage this morning. Currently sitting on 43%.

They way some people on the internet made the battery life sound like I was under the impression that I had to keep this thing on permanent charge.

It seems noticably worse than the 2, IMO. But maybe I've just been using it more...

Mine hasn't been charged since Friday night, used to watch numerous things on iPlayer, the grand prix weekend in it's entirety with a little bit of browsing and pdf reading. Still left with over 14% left. Great little thing it is.:o

I still feel like my battery goes down quite fast but then I left it on overnight listening to Di.Fm over Wi-Fi with the screen off, so 6 hours of music and it drops about 10% or so. That sounds great, when I turn the thing on though and start using it I feel like its bad.

But I did a test where I played a youtube video for like half an hour and looked at the % drop and did the calculations and it came to 8-9 hours of usage so..

The assets of all apps have expanded to around three times their regular sizes with retina graphics included so even with modest usage I'd be careful of 16GB. But you might be able to get away with it for your needs. :)

Well I've been done over by an online retailer. I had a 10% discount so decided to order a 32gb Wi-fi version. It arrived today and it was a 16gb version

I called up and they said the 32gb was out of stock and I could return the 16gb for a refund. They said they would apply the same discount for the 16gb, so I get just over £70 back.

I had a bit of a think and decided to keep the 16gb. I mainly use it to browser the web and read news feeds, so I'm hoping I'll be ok.

I was all set for getting the 32gb version but then decided to go for the 16. Thought that I might as well use the home sharing from my MacBook for music and tv shows etc and then convert others as needed. With a few apps installed I have around 11gb left which is loads.
