So you can pre-order from the Apple site then I guess? I'd imagine the site will be getting bombed around that time though.

I want one before I go away for Easter, lets hope I get lucky with the pre-ordering lottery.
 
I really hope the ipad 3 can play .mp4 movies with a single 5.1 ac3 track (rather than having to have a secondary 2ch aac one embedded).

Yes I realise the ipad isn't 5.1 :D but I can't be bothered stripping out audio streams and encoding.
 
Nobody can predict when the thing will actually be on sale, or when pre-orders will start for it.

Remember the latest must have was the iPhone 4S, that was only announced. The actual phone itself wasn't available to pre-order purchase until a later date. I seem to recall 9am was the supposed time the online store would start taking orders, but I'm sure it wasn't up until 10am, there were then of course big traffic problems trying to put an order in, enough people were trying that it was trending on twitter.

It was so funny with the iPhone 4S came out.

The Apple Store and the O2 shop are almost next to each other in West Quay shopping centre in Southampton but there's another O2 shop just down the road.

On the day of the launch there were queues outside both Apple and O2 in West Quay, but the other O2 shop was empty, so I walked in and out of there without having to wait and no fuss!
 
Yeah, I thought of that for my sister but everyone reserved on the website.

The days of walking (the act of using your legs, one in front of the other.....strange 20th century concept) to a shop on the high street and finding ANYTHING ACTUALLY IN STOCK, are slim to nil

Personally I will NEVER venture inside another shop ever again (not even food shopping). I'm not lazy, I just don't like people

Yeah that's the normal 'protocol' and yeah the servers get pretty hammered but if you are persistant you can normally get your pre-order in. I remember when I was pre-ordering my iPhone 4S, I was able to do it through my iPhone 4 using the Apple Store app and on a very bad 3G signal, so it is possible :p
 
Im hoping I don't have a divvy moment like I did when the 4s was available for preorder, I totally forgot and ended up ordering the next day :/

On the plus side, a load of people tend to preorder then go out and pick on up on the day, and then cancelling their online order. So the initial estimated delivery time tends to decrease after a few days. Mine went from 3-4 weeks to a week. I can manage to wait a week :>
 
According to Mashable the new iPad may be available sooner rather than later. Maybe as early as the weekend, certainly in the states, hopefully here as well.

Not sure how to get the 3. Shall I order from Apple, queue at an Apple store (well I am British and queueing is in our blood), or reserve one at a local retailer?

I've been iPadless since last Thursday and I am missing the convenience as right now I am typing this on my computer, yes I know how 20th century. ****, that makes me sound like an Apple fanboi, better go and buy an Android tablet :p
 
We only have one PC in the house (I dont count smartphones as personally I find them a useful as t**s on a fish) so I'm thinking iPad 3 and the apple keyboard.

This will be used as a laptop for the family, and a TV for the bedroom (old CRT was thrown out last month). RTMP *** (looking behind his shoulder :D)
