*** The Official iPad (Early 2012) Thread ***

im in the same boat nickrose.

i still cant understand why they use recycled references. if they arent going to work at all (even the day before postage) why bother using them at all? lol.

ive got 3 different references on my shipment status page and not a single one of them work on any delivery or tracking site.

id understand if this was the case for an item being delivered in a few days or a week, but were now within 24 hrs of delivery and i still cant track the ipad i ordered.

just a big ole pain. especially when i have to take the chance of taking a day off work and it then being wasted if it dosent turn up....0_0

Yes, I can see Apples point usind a logistics company to handle and store, but it is soooo frustraiting waiting for something fantastic like this.

I have had an iPad 1 and iPad 2 on release day and I will always do so in future releases, but the waiting is unbearable and is tantamount to torture. (sorry for being a little overdramatic.)

join the club dude, ive been a release date fanatic just like you, same with the iphones lol.

just cant help myself ;-)

Managed to resist the iPhone 4s, think I will wait for the 5 to come out and stick with the 4 for now. Probably, maybe not..... we'll see.:p

UK mail has my package as collected today at 11:13.

I'm hoping for an early delivery tomorrow before 8:30. If they come during the school run I think I might rage!

Guardian have posted the best review of the iPad 3 (i.e. the most realistic):

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/mar/15/apple-ipad-3-review?CMP=NECNETTXT8187

In fact, the difference between the visible screen quality of the iPad 2 and the "new iPad" isn't immediately obvious. I tried putting the two side by side and looking at the icons: even for Apple's icons, which you would expect would have been optimised for the new super-ultra-hi-res screen, it was hard to tell that anything had changed. (I also enlisted an 11-year-old just to make sure it wasn't my eyes at fault. He didn't spot the difference immediately either.)

Says it all really. There's very little wrong with the iPad 2's display - unless my nose touches the screen I cannot see pixels on that!

On the voice dictation:

I have to say that it's not great. To be honest, it's not even good.

This barely counts as a feature at present until it gets much, much better. (Dragon Dictation is a free app and does much the same job using the same back-end technology.)

Also, T3 have reported that the battery life is worse on the new iPad:

n testing we noticed a quickening in battery drain with the new iPad when browsing, viewing and creating content when compared to iPad 2. Watching a two-hour HD movie on both devices reduced 10 per cent more of the third-gen’s battery, while overnight energy seepage clocked in at six per cent, compared to zero from iPad 2.

New York Times:

The New York Times has its own idea on the naming choice for the new iPad: "Really, the new iPad should have been called the iPad 2S.

Overall, the iPad is the best tablet, period.

There is almost no argument to be had about it. It's that good.

There are a handful of justifications for getting something like a Transformer Prime instead (heavy 'dodgy' video playback, physical keyboard requirement, rare app usage), but the software simply isn't comparable outside of a few features.

HDMI output without needing to buy yet another apple product.

Is there a workaround to get iOS or Android to play flash web content/videos?

Funny how you completely miss out the headline sentence, plus the following section to which you quoted, which praise the retina display and highlight the differences.

No there isnt anything wrong with the iPad 2 display, but like comparing an iPhone 4 to a 3GS, it will be better.

Just had UPS at my door dropping a distinctive size box off to me:

He's doing his best to put himself off. Leave him to it, nothing to see here. :p
