Yeah it depends how you look at it. I think blowing £1200 a year on a new phone every year is probably a bit of a stretch, but when you factor in that you can sell the older one on and recoup around 2/3 of the cost, suddenly the £400 or so to upgrade doesn't seem too bad. Especially when you consider you get a fresh battery and a fresh year of warranty. But it's all down to how you look at it and value it :)

What cases have you folks ordered? I've been looking at the Snakehive, Mous and Bellroy leather cases.

I had a Mous case and car kit, the car kit didn't have a decent length neck and the case split where the 2 materials were joined..

Wife has the 13 Mini which is lightning and I'm getting the 15 Pro which is USB-C. The Tiguan we have has wired CarPlay which is a faff as it is so I'd already been considering this, however the addition of having to change cables all the time made me pick one up.

Just in case anyone here is in a similar situation.

My mate is selling his 14PM, mint condition, said I can have it for the MM price of £680.

I'm coming from a 13, so thinking the cost to change is roughly £280, can't quite justify the 15PM, worth going for do you guys think?

Back when I still used iPhones, this was how I did things, I remember it took until the 6th iPhone before it ever worked out as having paid 'full price' for even 1 phone haha. Back when they were £599.99 for the highest memory factory unlocked ones.

You should open more apps in your dock and multitask more mate, you're wasting your potential!

I mean, it depends how you use it. If you use it purely to make calls and texts, then yeah, it's stupid. But I think most people use their smart phones in a such a way that it's the piece of tech they use more than any other device, PC/Laptops included, so for me, £1200 once a year isn't worth worrying about. I easily get my monies worth and then some

£1200 a year!! Utter bonkers...

But it's not really, as the phone isn't worth £0 after 12 months. More often than not it's worth around £600 model dependant, so £600 a year or £50 a month for a device most people use multiple times a day. You don't even need to spend £1200, there are cheaper models.

My 3080 cost me £1k or whatever and I use it once a fortnight.

@ChrisD. interested to know if the Carplay works well when you've had chance to test it.
Just tried it quickly. Plug it in and the car asks if you want to use CarPlay. Then on the screen it tells you to pair your phone to the name it gives you. Did that and it came up straight away and seemed to work well. Will update after a bit of use.

Use my 3080 about once a month these days. Just can’t get motivated to game any more.

I think people who tie themselves into 2-3 year £60-70+ per month contracts are bonkers - it makes the outlay of a phone seem small potatoes (to me at least).
And I definitely think a lot of it comes down to usage. As was mentioned in a couple of posts, if your phone is your main device for pretty much everything you do then the cost is worth it IMO. Conversely, some people wouldn't think twice about spending at least that (and often considerably more) on a new TV which (in my house at least) you'd be lucky to use for 2hrs a day (Peppa Pig notwithstanding :p ).

The contract can work out acceptably in some cases. Of course it isn't as cheap as buying a phone outright on 0% and going SIM only, but, just as an example...

Friend on O2 was paying £66 a month for a 14 Pro Max and the tariff over 3 years. But O2 do Switch Up, which means you can change phone for free, so it's now going to be changed to a 15 Pro Max for the same monthly tariff and no extra outlay. Phone is around £50 a month on 0% for 2 years anyway, so if you just consider the O2 contract as a perpetual contract that entitles you to a new phone every year no questions asked, you could look at it as the tariff part being only £16 a month anyway. It also includes EU and USA roaming which is pretty good.

Over 12 months on a 0% plan you'll have paid £600 plus whatever for your SIM anyway. I guess as with everything it depends on your use case and how you want to break it down. I don't think I'd ever personally want a contract that was going to run for 3 years, but I could understand the appeal of doing it and upgrading phone every year for no charge with no hassle of selling/trading in.

Mine too.

I had a look at the Apple store today to see if changing colour would get it any sooner but the earliest I could see was the 15th of October, so I'm just going to have to be patient. :( :D

Major first-world problems!
On Friday morning take a look on Apples website and check stock in your area for in store pick up, thats what I did with my 14 Pro last year as I had major problems with the app last year and missed the launch day.

Then cancel your order with Apple for the one you have got on order.

Only downside for me is that it was a 2 hour round trip to go and collect it from Norwich.

Cheers all

I upgrade one of my EE lines:

iPhone 15 Pro 256 Black
24 months
125GB data
£79pm

However, they discounted it down to £32 per month by applying 30% F&F, 20% Perk and 10% loyalty (been with them for 18 years, Orange). That's a total cost of £768 over the 24 months!

Edit, £30 upfront so overall 24 month cost is £798. They also credited the £6.99 delivery charge.
