One of the reasons I'm moving from the 14 Pro, I find it really heavy, especially at the top end.

Looks like the "7 lenses" BS doesn't actually have a major negative effect on image quality.
The only thing I would like to see is a 3x photo from the 15 Pro Max side-by-side with a 3x photo from the Pro, to see how the digital crop compares to the native lens of the exact same scene.

Yea from the sounds of it the 1.2, 1.5 crops are actually enhanced with data from the full 48mp file so you aren't actually getting a crude crop.
The 24mp files on the main sensor sound really proposing and potentially fix the over-processed issues seen on the 14 Pro main sensor 12mp files.
Yea decided to commit to the 15 Pro. Over the years I've tried Google's hardware and just found it subpar which has meant I've been on my Pixel 5 for quite a while. I'm done waiting for Google to deliver something I'll not have an issue with. Their watch tells me all I need to know about how serious they about hardware and I'm not interested in their Exynos chips and rubbish modems.

Just looking on the Apple website and they seem to now be saying October 19-26th for the Black and Blue colours which isn't too bad a wait. I'm still kind of on the fence but will also probably cave.
I've just updated my work iPhone 11 to iOS 17 so will see how much customisation I can get out of that to my liking and play around a bit more with the UI as I'm sure it will mostly be the same with the 15

Let's be honest - the '7 lens' feature is for the lazy people who can't press edit and crop. The additonal '3 lenses' are an easy click crop preset.
It looks like those crop presets are enhanced with detail from the full 48mp file. It's not a crude digital crop.
Can't remember which video it was but taking a 1x and cropping it to match the 1.5x preset showed a lot more detail in the preset 1.5x.

Some very interesting results. The 17 Pro chip is not as efficient as we would have hoped and it can vary a lot based on content type. If you're running an easy to run game or watching videos or web browsing power draw is about 5% to 10% less than the A16, but if you are smashing the phone with a high end video game or benchmark the A17 Pro's GPU will pull up to 10 watts compared to 7 watts on the A16, yes the A17 Pro has 20% higher performance but it comes at a cost of significantly higher power draw on the GPU. The good thing is the 15 Pro Max at least doesnt run any hotter than the 14 Pro Max, but if you are pushing the 15 Pro Max hard then you will find it runs out of battery quicker than the 14 Pro Max because it's pulling up to 40% watts from the battery
Due to this the iPhone with the best battery life in a stress test is actually the iPhone 15 Plus that uses the A16
