It is utterly bizarre how a phone with a larger screen by over an inch can feel smaller.

Notch has already disappeared, thought it would be a bigger issue.

I did want to move from my 8+ to a Xs because the 8+ always felt slightly to big in my pocket and I love my ipad mini for slightly larger screen stuff - but everyone is banging on about the XsMax - I know its basically the same size as my 8+ but im not sure if its too big really, i know the screen on the Xs is 5.8 vs 5.5 of my 8+ so I don't see the need to jump to a max now ?

I went from 7+ > X > XS Max.

Within minutes of owning the XS Max it didn't feel too big to use in my hand nor does it feel too big in my jeans pockets (if you are type of guy to wear skinny jeans, this may be an issue) and while I did love the X i missed the bigger phone (the X's screen definitely felt smaller than the 7+ to me) it feels like it has a smaller footprint than the 7+ did or maybe it's just an illusion as it's basically all screen

First impressions are that the max might just sway me back to iOS! I've set the text size to smallest but wish it would carry through everywhere, the text in control centre is still comically big.
I've installed just one app so far (Feedly) and I'm happy with the density of the text of the screen and how much is displayed.

If you bought an XS instead of a Max then seriously consider swapping it. I hated the X last year because of its rubbish resolution and small screen but this year the Max has made all the difference.

Probably going to shock you more that most apps don’t even support the Max screen resolution so are running zoomed, so you’ll get more screen space on apps once they update.

Considering how much I saw you complaining about the notch I’m glad you’ve come around.

I knew I'd be at work today so asked DPD to drop off at a local pick-up shop so I could pick it up after work. Low and behold I get a message from DPD saying they couldn't deliver to this pick-up shop today, no reason why and just that they will deliver tomorrow now. Damn you DPD, why offer a pick-up shop option to then not deliver to it. Super helpful!

Had to buy an X official silicone case for mine. Which as I knew didn’t fit around the camera properly. A little scalpel work later it now fits flush.

I’ll get the proper case when stock arrives in my local store.

It can't be that as I've bought direct from Apple and had it sent to pick-up shops before and never had an issue. If the sender doesn't allow it surely DPD wouldn't offer pick-up shops as an option. They didn't say they would deliver to my home address tomorrow, they said it would be the pick-up shop again.

Considering how much I saw you complaining about the notch I’m glad you’ve come around.

I’d still prefer it without one but yes I’ve come around to it because of how good the screen is and indeed the rest of the phone.

I take it there was no hassle down there with waiting? I guess that means there's plenty of stock. Weird that they're not letting you reserve at Apple stores at the moment, but I may pop into the Apple store at West Quay myself on the way back home from Bracknell later.

I phoned them before I left and asked about stock. They said they could make me a reservation so that’s what I did.

I won’t really get to play with it until tomorrow though as I’m off to IKEA…

Apple have done well to get a lot of people buying two years running by not having a Plus/Max version of the new form factor last year.

Yea, I gather that from the website Hope they use the DHL tracking thing, I did get a text from UK Mail later with a delivery window which was correct.

I'm using the wallpapers from the XR, they look really good. Not a fan of the XS official live wallpapers.

Oh, one other thing I'm curious about - those of you who had an X before and now have an XS - is FaceID noticeably quicker? I quite like FaceID on my X and haven't really had any problems with it but I have always wished it was just a little bit faster.

From what I've read it's not a massive difference, it's not like going from the iPhone 6 > 6S type of speed up.
