Wow, that looks like it's going to be so powerful with time.

"Hey Siri, order a poop to be delivered to my nemesis' letterbox" :D

Drop test vid

TLDW: First drop face down from waist height cracked the XS

Head height drop got the back of the XS Max

10ft drop annihilated the back of the XS Max, and eventually got the front on a second drop.

Anyone who moved from x to max finding the phone too big? I can’t make up my mind whether to go back to the x or keep the max

Nope not even slightly. The X was a perfect sized phone but the Max just seems the better device

Edit: that drop test was a bit worrying. Good job I have insurance and Apple Care! Never bothered with a screen protector but maybe I will (probably won’t). Smashed the back of my iPhone X from a waist hight drop which was annoying

Received the iPhone XS today :D Very happy with it - haven’t had much time to play with it yet, but coming from an iPhone 6S, it’s a massive improvement for me :D

I got the spigen 2 pack screen protector with the plastic frame thingy - and I have also managed to install it with dust under it :p

I’ll try again tomorrow at work as I think I rushed it :p

I definitely need to get a case ASAP too - got to protect her with my life at the moment :D

Waterproof test.

TLDW:

Held up great, even when strapped to his chest wakeboarding.

Dropped it to the bottom of a lake at 40ft for a minute, broke the Note 9, but the XS help up and didn't break.

It’s definitely going to take me some time to get used to the control centre being in the top right corner instead of from the bottom!

I’m already seeing a massive difference in battery life which is nice :)

Another shout out to anyone that uses a case with it - What do you use?

I’m struggling to find a decent XS case at the moment - They’re all “iPhone XS and X”, which isn’t going to fit the Camera properly :(

Omg . Reserved a 256gb max this morning , went and picked it up . Now officially on the iup program.

then drove past John Lewis on way home .. thought I’d see if they had gold in treat the wife so it’s not all about me....b00m Xs gold 256gb in stock....expensive day :)

Now time to wipe the X and send off

Other than the yearly upgrade is the IUP really worth it, are you guys using sim only deal? I’m on EE as are all my family so looking to stay with them...

I’ve had my Xs for a little over a day and I bought it sort of reluctantly for reasons I’ve rambled on about on this forum recently.

Anyway, I’m already a convert when it comes to Face ID - I'm really impressed with the accuracy and I’ve had only a single failure out of many unlocks. The speed of the phone is exactly what I wanted and overall the phone is growing on me. New gestures are easy and accurate.

Screen on time today is heading for 7 hours reported by the phone itself with auto brightness on. My galaxy s8 would reach about 4 hours.

There are a few tiny things I miss from android, but in terms of the hardware, I like the Xs very much.

Been messing about and setting up a black xs. I’m coming from a note 8 and the xs is fun,I’ll keep the note 8 for media and tether with the xs when I need to when I’m hard at work. I know iOS because I had the 7 and I missed the integration between apps. I just love using this phone and I can’t say that about the Samsung, but having said that the camera on the note 8 seems better.

I’ve been going SIM free since the iPhone 5. Have been with 3 and I pay £17 p/m for 300 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited 4G data and 30GB of tethering allowance a month on a 30 day rolling contract.

I think the upgrade plan is worth it. I’ve been on it since the 7+. Even if you don’t upgrade (which I haven’t managed to not do) it’s a decent deal

I’m not sure it’s ‘decent’. It seemed a better deal when I thought it was payment over 2 years but it’s payment over 20 months. So far as I see it, if you buy a device with Apple care that means you borrow £1000, if you upgrade the next year the phone costs you ~£600 for the year.

Actually may as well use the example on their website.

“Representative example:

£898 purchase over 20 monthly payments at 0% p.a. (fixed) would cost £41.45 per month. £69 upfront payment required. Total cost of credit £0. Total amount of credit £829.”

You can upgrade after 11 paymanets. Cost of the phone for the year if you upgrade ASAP - £524.95 (or 58% total cost of the phone).

The cost of convenience I guess.

I’m on IUP (as is my wife) - for us we want the apple care so that’s why choosing IUP. This time around we sold the iPhone 8 we had privately - paid off the loan - and started again as it’s better value .. it doesn’t have to be about convenience.
The extra we made covered the upfront fee and a case too

And you guys are on a SIM only deal yes? Just trying to see if the IUP is better than a normal 24 month contract with data/mins/sms ...

Thanks

Ive been a sim only for quite a few years.. I have bough many of my iPhones out right and still do..

The iUP i have though about it but I just prefer to get the phone paid and forgotten with if i have the dosh waiting which I always do and then I sell it before I get the new phone and I always get a good price but this time round the mrs had my iPhone X whilst I went and get a XS Max

That’s part of the issue with a big lump sum I can’t afford to go that way, might look at moving to a sim only deal with EE and get the handset via Apple, do you have to pay for Apple care on top of the monthly price? Or is it just a single price per month

There is 2 options with apple

You can use there Upgrade plan which include the apple care in the price

or

Phone Payment plan which doesn't include the apple care but it only saves you £10 a month so most people go with the apple care route.. Which version you after

As there is a
iUP = iPhone Upgrade Programme this include the apple care and can be taken back in 11 month to upgrade

iP - Iphone Payment this doesn't include apple care but you can buy it on top if like and it runs for 20 month but can be paid off early

I believe both plans you can pay off early if wanted

yup 2x bt sim only. £15 each for 40gb.
We sold the iPhone 8 with 12 months warranty and ac+ claims intact for £460
Loan had £350 remaining which we paid off with Barclays.
New iup upfront cost was £69 and plenty left for a case.

We could’ve gone for the cheaper payments plan but AC+ Just in case with a little one was worth it for us
